One particular guard, however, was being an asshole and wouldn't pick up a pick (Metal Mike's) that fell so close to the barrier. One person attempted to jump the barrier and was halfway over it before being pushed back by other guards. The guard relented and threw it out, and that guy grabbed it out of the air.

Heh. Sounds like me catching Metal Mike's pick. I am still wondering if I hurt the guy in front of me when I jumped over his back and snatched it in mid-air. Thumbs up from ol' Metal Mike as well! Best catch of my damn life.
38 Special played a free fair here a while back. Best move I saw from a big ol' mama when she missed the pick and it landed at her feet. She stepped on it. If you saw the size of that lady, NOONE was going to move her. lol. Slow hands but quick thinking.

Bobby smiled at me and gave me a thumbs up for my grab. That's when I knew for sure that it was meant for me. But those damn picks, can't catch them because I always lose them in the lights! But it's the eagle eye and fastest reflexes that wins the battle of the pick on the ground.
I LOVED your review Vail! Made me relive my two shows all over again!! AWESOME, freakin' AWESOME!! And I'm with you 1000% - I hope that the Halford band continues on for many more years!!

The lead guitarist (or at least, the one with the dark, curly hair) was also shaking hands. My side got almost no love from this band nor from Philm. Heck, even with Halford our side had almost no luck with the guitar picks and drumsicks.

Good early morning, ladies and gents of the Noticeboard!
Just got back from the concert, voice shot, neck aching and knees hurting (from all the jumping). Yeah, that's how great it was. HALFORD, in a nutshell, was SUPERB AND OUTSTANDING!!! HOLY CRAP, WHATTA SHOW THEY PUT ON!!!!
My sister and I got to The Grove about half an hour before the gates opened (although not before getting lost for a bit). It was raining and there was nothing shielding the people in line from getting wet. There were random people selling umbrellas and those who were desparate enough bought them. But not my sis and I, we were cool. Heheh. When they let us in, right away I went for the merchandise. They were selling several Metal God Apparel shirts, the Hell Brawl shirt (I think it's Hell Brawl, at least), the long-sleeved shirt, the Made of Metal shirt with the tour dates (I bought that one and put it on right away), the Live in Anaheim DVD and the remastered Crucible album. We entered the auditorium and went straight for the railing at the front (yup, that's right...the very front). We were only a couple feet away from the stage! We went to the right side of the house (stage left, where Glenn would play), reached the railing, and stayed there throughout the whole thing.
The first band to perform was Warbringer, a thrash metal band. Their music was pretty good, I'll give 'em that. Heck, even a moshpit formed nearby during one of their songs. The lead guitarist was jumping around and playing some killer solos. He reminded me of KK a little bit for his energy and excessive use of the tremolo bar. Overall a good, energetic band. I give 'em an 8/10. Then came Philm, whose music was surprisingly good, in my opinion. Too bad the vocals sucked. Other than that, I liked their set and so did the crowd, which was getting bigger. I give 'em 8.5/10.
Now then. On to HALFORD!!
This was when the crowd really began to get bigger, especially when the roadies were unveiling Bobby's drumkit and testing out the guitars. I saw Roy several times while he was looking at the setup from backstage. At one point he walked onstage and got a watter bottle from the edge of the drumriser, hiding himself with the curtain while doing so. I waved at him, although I don't think he saw me. Then setup was done, and everyone was chanting, "HALFORD! HALFORD! HALFORD!", whistling and screaming. The lights went down, and that sound at the beginning of Resurrection began. Everyone began to cheer louder, especially when Metal Mike, Roy, Mike Davis, and Bobby came on. It was so cool seeing them for the first time in the flesh!!! It was almost like seeing Glenn, KK, Ian, and Scottie go onstage for the first time. AND THEY WERE ONLY A FEW FEET AWAY!!! Metal Mike began the first riff and the show began.
When it was almost time for him to sing, the one and only Metal God, Rob John Arthur Halford, came out. He was wearing a long trenchcoat that had a red dragon design on the back. The crowd went nuts, and I screamed like a banshee. I had already seen him twice before, but everytime always feels like the first time! In between songs he would talk a bit about his career, his life, etc, and he was quite funny. One speech of his that I liked was the one he gave before starting Cyberworld. He started with "I was born in 19.....23", and talked about the Internet. Haha. Overall he was in great shape and he sang and screamed so effortlessly!!! It felt as though with every tour Rob's vocals were just getting better and better!!! He was also energetic, walking from side to side, playing air guitar and interacting and singing with the other band members. Heck, just seeing him as up-close as I did, sweating and putting alot of effort and heart into the lyrics, hearing him and seeing him give it all he's got...it's like...WOW. More respect to this man, because he just blows away the crowd and makes one forget that there were even opening acts. He is, without a doubt, THE METAL GOD.
HALFORD performed just incredibly. IN-CRE-DI-BLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There was so much energy coming from all sides and all members of the band!! They looked as though they were having fun and joked with each other very often. . It was also so cool seeing Metal Mike, Roy, Rob, and Mike Davis taking turns going to different sides during the show, giving us all a chance to see them up close.
Metal Mike was awesome as hell, a madman on the guitar, I tell ya!! Love the faces that he made while playing. At the end of Drop Out he kept the guitar wailing like there was no tomorrow, and after Savior, after holding up his guitar, he swerved around and knocked the mic stand down with it. BAD-FREAKIN'-ASS. At another point he was high-fiving our side. I tried to high-five him, but my arm was too small. BUT! We did have our seconds-long connection during the chorus in Thunder and Lightning. When he came near us, I was yelling, "You're the thunder, to my lightning" (yes, wrong, I know), pointing at him...and he pointed at me!! He was so cool. 'nuff said.
Mike Davis=another great band member. He went to our side many times and during a couple of instances he lowered his bass guitar close enough for anyone with extra-long arms to touch it (or try, at least). At then the end he threw his bass to the stage. Thumbs up from me!!
Roy Z...what can I say. I saw him lots of times while he was backstage, saw him even more during HALFORD's set. Another badass and genius on the guitar. He was in great shape...and quite a cutie, if I do say so myself. I love both of those guitarists. But of course...Glenn is always número uno in my heart.
BOBBY! I wish I could see him a bit more, but he was hiding under all those cymbals. At one point I saw a piece of broken drumstick flying out. Excellent drummer! Kept my teeth chattering.
HALFORD's performace tonight was very special because they played an extra song!! Right after Drop Out, the band members went backstage and came back out wearing red shirts with the Big Boy's Restaurant logo on it. Rob went on explaining how they went to the Big Boy's in nearby Orange and loved it (there's one in Downey, very close to where I live, but I never went there). Then they went ahead and played "I Don't Care" from the Winter Songs album, in time for the holidays. It was quite a treat!!
Golgotha (so heavy live!!!...you just had to bang your head harder), Made of Metal, Fire and Ice (especially...Rob singing the chorus once to each side, what more could you want?!?), Nailed to the Gun (Rob "summoning" the notes from Mike's guitar, stretching out his hand from the guitar), Cyberworld, Saviour, Dropout, Thunder and Lightning, The Green Manalishi, Jawbreaker, and Diamonds and Rust were the big highlights. That connection to the band members is just made better with the fact that they paid attention to all sides and made sure you were part of the fun and mayhem. The crowd was wild and gave it their all. I kept screaming my lungs off to the lyrics, even cried from happiness. It was overall a great performace. I had a great time, and I hope to see HALFORD again, especially Rob when he tours next year with Judas Priest. Even if Judas Priest finishes for good, I hope HALFORD goes on for a little while longer. A big THANK YOU to the HALFORD band for such an incredible performace. Thank you Rob, Metal Mike, Mike Davis, Roy, and Bobby, and hopefully I'll see you guys together again in your next tour!

Hehehe.... you got that right - I was a guard in basketball, gotta have good hands Did I mention that in G.R. Bobby came out, looked at me and then tossed a stick to me? It went more toward the guy next to me and I grabbed it with my left hand, just snatched it out of the air. The guy next to me was disappointed, but if ya snooze ya lose!! HA!
[Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by guidogodoy from Monday, December 20, 2010 6:22:30 PM)

I'd say HRMG as she seems to get a lot more swag but she also seems to have better hands.

You shoulda been there!! That mosh pit was getting bigger and bigger, it was almost like a whirlpool!! Right after their set, the singer went out and shook hands with some of the fans from the other side of the railing, mainly to the fans that were front and center. The lead guitarist (or at least, the one with the dark, curly hair) was also shaking hands. My side got almost no love from this band nor from Philm. Heck, even with Halford our side had almost no luck with the guitar picks and drumsicks. [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by Painkiller87 from Monday, December 20, 2010 1:18:34 PM)

Rating for HALFORD's performace: 15/10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by guidogodoy from Monday, December 20, 2010 1:44:12 AM)

I'm sorry to not have joined you since the news, but I have been sick to my stomach since finding out and once I got my bearings I've been reflecting. One reason to not post was because I was a little upset with the way Rob handled an interview while in town a few days ago, acting like the Priest retiring was no big deal.
Anyway, I hold a lot of the same great memories as most of you. I feel priviledged to have enjoyed them during their heyday. They've been a part of my life since 1978-79 and I'm not sure where I'd be in life now without them. Their words have given me direction and reason for pause at different times in my life and I still hold them close to my heart.
As they embark on their final journey, I thank them with all my heart and soul for everything they've given me. I wish them nothing but the best and I will certainly say good-bye a couple of times during their tour.
I hope this site doesn't go down just because the band will be gone. If it does, it will be another sad day as well as I've met some wonderful friends here.

Don't think for a second that Priest retiring isn't a big deal to Rob. We saw Halford in Grand Rapids on Tuesday, the day of the announcement. Rob was down, he was not himself. I have no doubt in my heart that this is tearing him up inside because I know that Priest means the world to him. He put on a brave face as he always does, that's all.
We'll see you and Bev at at least one more show, if not more. We will give them the send off that they deserve! [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by ron h from Sunday, December 12, 2010 5:37:10 PM)

Great to hear from you Ron
I wish I had taken more than three seconds to reflect when I posted my initial reaction to the very surprising news. It didn't seem the direction they were heading. I thought we'd get news of that they were going to hit the studio sometime in the new year. So, it was a shock.
Happy Holidays! Looks like we all from the midwest to the midatlantic and northern states may be looking at a White Christmas this year. After that, if it would just move on, I'd be happy about it. lol

having never been to oz I dont know how the drivers there compare, but unless your off the main roads into some older area that you probably should never go to anyway, the LA roads are great and the drivers are much nicer than they are here. people I know tell me that the wheel on the other side makes it easier. being a pedestrian is harder, you look the wrong way before you cross. My Dad went to Australia once and rented a car. He said he wish he hadn't bothered as when he would get to where he wanted to be he'd always be on the wrong side of the road and have to turn around. But, for the most part, US highways are simple. So you'll probably have no problems. I would have huge problems thinking backwards. lol

Yeah unfortunately we have neither the money nor the time to see everything that we'd like to. We're going to Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, going to check out the Grand Canyon too we'll be driving a majority of the time too, LOL! A bit scared of that lol. Wow, Temple of Doom was my most unfavorite. I loved the one with Sean Connery after that. Too funny. Indiana? We called the dog Indiana!

No wait. I see the problem. The offer was from, go figure, Nashville but the tix were for Atlanta. "Local pickup only."
So someone would have to go to Nashville to get the tix and then go to Atlanta to see the concert! Therein lies the problem.
Ok, now there are four tix ready to be relisted. I need three friends. Oh, let's be real, I need four as I can only pick them up.
NO, what it means is (Thank God!!!!) Nobody in the world would pay that much money for such a thing! Sheeww. What a relief to know, no one is THAT brain dead.

Sad part is that someone bought it. I hope it was in the name of a good cause. Personally, I'd just freely give the $ and skip meeting Donny Osmond Jr. if I had that much cash to blow.

Hi, gang! Yes, its me. I heard the news and thought I would stop by for a few words. I know that many of you find this news difficult to accept and I suppose there is a part of me that feels the same, however, I find this moment more bittersweet.
We all have such wonderful memories of this great, great band. So many things we will always recall with tremendous fondness as we remember where we were when or what we were doing..... All the fantastic concerts we have enjoyed, the awesome music they have made and the amazing people we have met. And, of course, there is this site.
I cannot say what will become of this place when the guys finally play that last song. I assume there are many tears to be shed and many hugs to share. I will always be grateful to the people that made this site more than just a web page. More than just a fan site. I found friendship here that I will cherish for the rest of my days.
I have not been here much in the last few months and I quite likely will not be back too often. I prefer to remember this site for what it was and who was here. I prefer to remember all the friends I have made and all the great times we had here. All in the name of the GREATEST band ever! They have given us SO much more than music. They are and will always be a part of us. When I hear a Priest song, I will think of you all. I will remember those crazy days of years ago. The laughs we shared and some of the tears. The fun and even the bad moments. I will remember the FAITHFUL DEFENDERS. Our two albums and all that went into them. The days at MM's house. The sights that the Princess and I saw in New York. The WONDERFUL music we made.
Perhaps we will see one another at one of the final shows next year? I know that I will think of you when I see the boys making their final stop near me! I thank all of you for the many years we have spent together. I love you guys. Please remember that. Please remember me. Thank you Rob, Glenn, Ian and Scott. I will remember you.

Very sad day indeed. I do not know what to think of the timing...would have rather gotten the news after the holiday's, yet as I think about it, now I could ask for all kinds of JP stuff for Christmas that I normally wouldn't get!

Nowhere else to post this...but Happy St. Andrews Day to all our Scottish brethren..Slainte Mhath!

then again just mentioning airlines ruins most happy thoughts.
Hmmm. Nice commercial but now extrapolate to the airlines. The young girl and wife would now be the implicit threat. [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by Head banger from Thursday, November 25, 2010 10:08:15 PM)

The story sounded very familiar to a Mine tragedy in WV not long ago. Methane was the cause there too. They never stood a chance to get anyone out due to the very high levels of methane filing the mine. 33 people died. The mine was not safe to enter to retrieve the bodies for several weeks. It will surprise no one familiar with American mining that the company in charge of the mine was Massey Energy. That company is all about greed and cuting corners. They are always running Massey commercials here trying to con the public into thinking they are working to resolve these issues. Bull.

I think we just need more dedicated ladies in the front line, like Shaneesha:
I'll take the full body scan when going through security at Sacramento International Airport. Hopefully it will be quick and painless.
If not, then I'll ask to be packed in a giant box with styrofoam peanuts and a giant roll of bubble wrap to pass the time while in the cargo plane. I'll even pay extra for overnight delivery.

Nothing like being felt up at the airport by strange people wearing latex gloves. I'm thinking I would go for full body scan. Afterall, if you look at enough naked bodies, like in art class, they all just look like nothing but objects.

From all accounts, you best show up 3 hours early to the airport and be prepared to have any electronic device taken away or even destroyed based on the slightest suspicion. A friend who worked with the Spanish Embassy and is used to such treatment even described Tel Aviv as both "polite" yet "unpleasant." Either you know and are travelling with an Israeli, ARE one or are in a tour group. All others are highly suspect.
450 airports in the USA vs. 1 in Israel hardly makes this a viable option, though. Puffer technology or, better yet, just freeze everyone and treat 'em like freight. No bomb threats, no bad food, not even the problem of getting sick from a fellow passenger if they use enough Saran Wrap. (Quoting Message by Head banger from Tuesday, November 23, 2010 2:54:49 PM)

I will say this for having people armed at every counter. when I was in cuba and I saw the guys delivering to a bank or filling a bank machine and 5 guys with AK47s staring down everyone who was near, I crossed the street to avoid them. still a 1 hour lineup is bullshit. that bothers me more than the pat down or the guy eyballing my junk on a screen.

Hmmmm..... that is a very interesting question HB. I think that with all the technology we have today, we hear about things almost instantly. I think just as many bad things happened to people years ago, we just didn't hear about it unless we lived nearby.
My personal philosophy is to trust my instincts about people. When we hire someone new, I know within minutes whether they will be good or not and I've never been wrong or surprised. I can tell right away if something is "off" about someone and I keep my guard up. I make sure that I know my kids friends and parents, so yes they can go over to their friends house. But I would never let them go over and play somewhere if I didn't know the family - better to have the friend come to my house until I meet the parents. I trust people unless I have some feeling that I shouldn't and when I get that feeling I trust it. Always better safe than sorry!
I've met 4 people on this board so far and they have all been FANTASTIC people that I am very proud to know. I hope to meet many more before Priest is through too. I'm hoping we can all get together for a show one day!!! [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by Head banger from Monday, November 15, 2010 2:21:20 PM)

I know that I have met people from the internet (at some obscure site judaspriest.com). I went to DF's house when I was in vegas and had a great time. the guys I was with kidded me about getting killed by some internet psycho, but also kidded me about dating... I survived. I have also met up with QT from this site, that was in a more public space, which makes good sense and it was great to meet her. I would love to meet more people from this site, and think that I would do so, if I could and if reasonable precautions could be worked out (meet in a public area, etc)
I know that in general our lack of trust hurts people today. 2 examples would be, if you pass a broken down car on the side of the highway in the middle of nowhere do people stop and help? not many. can your kids go to a friends house to play in the evening? not often.
sad state of affairs that we are this way, and I wonder, is society more messed up these days, or do things that go badly get spread around more

While that is horible, and I often fall into the camp of DTA I think that too much lost trust hurts us all too.
2 examples would be, if you pass a broken down car on the side of the highway in the middle of nowhere do people stop and help? not many. can your kids go to a friends house to play in the evening? not often.
