The lights go on, and the curtain comes up — on Legacy Recordings' brand-new Setlist series of live collections from an A-list of core artists on the Columbia, Epic, and RCA labels. Hand-picked and sequenced by aficionados and (in some cases) the artists themselves, the first 11 volumes in the Setlist series – by BLUE ÖYSTER CULT, CHEAP TRICK, JEFFERSON AIRPLANE, JUDAS PRIEST, KANSAS, TED NUGENT, QUIET RIOT, and REO SPEEDWAGON – will be available at all physical and digital retail outlets starting July 13.

According to the Associated Press, Dio's son, Dan Padavona, cautioned the memorial crowd to be screened regularly by a doctor and take care of themselves, something he said his father did not do.
"I beg you not to make the same mistake my dad made," said Padavona. "For dad, the show always had to go on. He ignored the warning signs for years, and all along the cancer was growing and mutating from something that was probably easily defeatable into a monster which even Dio couldn't slay."
"He had that magic," remembered Willie Fyfe, Dio's longtime personal assistant. "He always called it magic. Once he had a crowd in his hands, that's where they stayed until it was time to go, then he'd give them back, and walk off and do his thing. Bless him. He's still doing that now, and the guy is in a coffin."
It has now been confirmed that two major concerts are being planned to celebrate the life of the late Ronnie James Dio.
The gigs — dubbed Ronnie James Dio "Stand Up And Shout" Memorial Concerts — will take place in London and Los Angeles in the fall. Annual concerts will then be held in the years to follow.
Ronnie James Dio's widow, Wendy Dio, recently asked fans to ignore a protest by members of the Westboro Baptist Church, a fringe Christian congregation from Kansas, at Dio's public memorial service. The far right church announced its plans shortly after Dio's death, calling the late metal vocalist a "Satan-worshiper" and claiming he was "residing in hell."
As news of the group's protest began to spread online, Wendy Dio posted a message saying, "Ronnie hates prejudice and violence. We need to turn the other cheek on these people that only know how to hate someone they didn't know. We only know how to love someone we know!"
Westboro Baptist Church is led by "minister" Fred Phelps, who has previously claimed that terrorist attacks and natural disasters are God's revenge for a society that tolerates homosexuality.
The church feels that they "have the duty to protest and picket at certain events, including funerals, to promote their religious message."
Members of the church have staged demonstrations at funerals of fallen soldiers.
Dio, who fronted BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW and his own band, died on May 16 from stomach cancer at the age of 67.

It appears that a massive concert in the memory of Ronnie James Dio will take place in London and LA.
Classic Rock magazine are rumouring that a pair of very special concerts in the memory of Ronnie James Dio are being planned for the autumn. The shows are alleged to be being named the Ronnie James Dio “Stand Up And Shout” Memorial Concerts.
These gigs are rumoured to feature the remaining members of Heaven & Hell (Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinnie Appice) with Judas Priest’s Rob Halford handling Dio’s vocals.
It's a hard pill to swollow. So, thought he, of all people, would beat it.

I find it very difficult to eat. I don't like to eat anyway, so I guess that's OK. But I know I have to. But this makes it very, very hard. But if you're determined to beat it, then you have to go with what you believe is going to beat it for you, and in this case it's that. I go to a great hospital in Houston called M.D. Anderson, which I think is the best hospital in the world, I have the best doctor in the world, Dr. Ajani, who I really trust and I really believe in, so I think I've done all the right things. It makes me feel positive about my life and positive that there is a lot more of it to live."
Earlier this month, HEAVEN & HELL canceled its summer tour plans in Europe due to Dio's treatment for stomach cancer. The band said in a statement that Dio wasn't "well enough to tour this summer. We hope that everyone understands and want to thank fans and industry colleagues for their continuing support at this time."
Ronnie James Dio had performed with ELF, RAINBOW, BLACK SABBATH, and his own band DIO. Other musical projects included the collective fundraiser "Hear 'n Aid". He is widely hailed as one of the most powerful singers in heavy metal, renowned for his consistently powerful voice and for popularizing the "devil's horns" hand gesture in metal culture. He was most recently involved with HEAVEN & HELL, a project which also included former BLACK SABBATH bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice. Their first and only studio album, "The Devil You Know", was released on April 28, 2009.

"I am super-excited about this," said Scott Ian. "Joey and the rest of the band came to see me play at a club in New York, I hadn't seen Joey for years, since the end of the reunion tour. Joey taps me on the shoulder, instant big hug, it felt like no time had gone by. The band dynamic is an interesting one — in ANTHRAX, Joey and I spent so many years of our lives together, we grew up together, we know each other so well, so it was like no time was lost."
Belladonna, an essential part of ANTHRAX's lineup from 1985 to 1992, sang on some of the band's most popular albums including "Spreading the Disease", "Among the Living" and "Persistence of Time". He had reunited with original members of ANTHRAX for the 2005-2007 "Among the Living Tour", but this situation is different. Explained Belladonna, "I had been in touch with Charlie and Frank, then I got a call from their manager who said that everyone wanted me back in the band. I thought, 'are you guys for real? You want me up there, fronting the band like it was before?' I was thrilled. We've already started to reconnect with the old ways of having conversations. Everything is easy going and feels really good."
"We're going to do these summer shows and gel as a band," explained Charlie Benante, "get comfortable playing with each other again, and the energy from that should go right into making new music."
Immediately following the final Sonisphere festival in early August, the band will fly back to the U.S. and begin writing and rehearsing for a new album that's expected to be out in early 2011.
"We've got an unusual luxury of hindsight," added Ian. "We finished an album a year ago, we've lived with those 12 songs since then, and we can look back on them and see what we really love and what we can make even better, especially with Joey back in the fold."
Added Benante, "There are five or six songs from a year ago that we don't want to change, we love them the way they are, other than having Joey making them his own with his vocals. Then there's another five or six that we may want to rework, and then there are a bunch of other tunes that are still in the early stages, that we want to finish.
"The band has been on an emotional roller coaster since last summer," Benante continued, "but I think everything that we've had to deal with during that time was pushing us toward this, to Joey being back in ANTHRAX, and the timing couldn't be more perfect or appropriate. To have Joey with us playing these shows with METALLICA, SLAYER and MEGADETH is the way it should be — as ANTHRAX's vocalist from '85 to '92, he was part of the 'Big Four.'"
"John was a real stand-up guy about the situation," said Ian, about John Bush, ANTHRAX's vocalist from 1992 to 2005 and for some of ANTHRAX's most recent live shows. "He knew we wanted to move forward at full speed, that we needed a total commitment to ANTHRAX, and he knew that wasn't what he wanted. We certainly wish John well. We've had so many great times with him, and we appreciate his stepping in last summer at the last minute, and performing with us since then. He will always be an integral part of the ANTHRAX family."

Belladonna, an essential part of ANTHRAX's lineup from 1985 to 1992, sang on some of the band's most popular albums including "Spreading the Disease", "Among the Living" and "Persistence of Time". He had reunited with original members of ANTHRAX for the 2005-2007 "Among the Living Tour", but this situation is different. Explained Belladonna, "I had been in touch with Charlie and Frank, then I got a call from their manager who said that everyone wanted me back in the band. I thought, 'are you guys for real? You want me up there, fronting the band like it was before?' I was thrilled. We've already started to reconnect with the old ways of having conversations. Everything is easy going and feels really good."
"We're going to do these summer shows and gel as a band," explained Charlie Benante, "get comfortable playing with each other again, and the energy from that should go right into making new music."
Immediately following the final Sonisphere festival in early August, the band will fly back to the U.S. and begin writing and rehearsing for a new album that's expected to be out in early 2011.
"We've got an unusual luxury of hindsight," added Ian. "We finished an album a year ago, we've lived with those 12 songs since then, and we can look back on them and see what we really love and what we can make even better, especially with Joey back in the fold."
Added Benante, "There are five or six songs from a year ago that we don't want to change, we love them the way they are, other than having Joey making them his own with his vocals. Then there's another five or six that we may want to rework, and then there are a bunch of other tunes that are still in the early stages, that we want to finish.
"The band has been on an emotional roller coaster since last summer," Benante continued, "but I think everything that we've had to deal with during that time was pushing us toward this, to Joey being back in ANTHRAX, and the timing couldn't be more perfect or appropriate. To have Joey with us playing these shows with METALLICA, SLAYER and MEGADETH is the way it should be — as ANTHRAX's vocalist from '85 to '92, he was part of the 'Big Four.'"
"John was a real stand-up guy about the situation," said Ian, about John Bush, ANTHRAX's vocalist from 1992 to 2005 and for some of ANTHRAX's most recent live shows. "He knew we wanted to move forward at full speed, that we needed a total commitment to ANTHRAX, and he knew that wasn't what he wanted. We certainly wish John well. We've had so many great times with him, and we appreciate his stepping in last summer at the last minute, and performing with us since then. He will always be an integral part of the ANTHRAX family."

One more thing JD D. I heard KK Dowing on Bruce Dickenson's little metal readio program this April. KK said he thought fans would llike to have a cross between British Steel and Painkiller. Maybe that's a clue as to the direction Priest will take when they go in to the studio. Whatever happens I'm sure Priest will punch us in the face with a killer metal cd. If the next one is potentially their last then they'll hit it as hard as they can guaranteed!
I don't apologise for liking RATT, they're a good band. I like Priest a lot better. Quality is in the ear of the beholder simple as that

Judas Priest has the horrible "Demolition" 2001, the awsome Angel Of Retribution 2005 and the lame Nostradamus 2008 so they only have one great album in 10 years.
Motorhead has We Are Motorhead 2000, Hammered 2002, Inferno 2004, Kiss Of Death 2006, and Motorizer 2008 wich are all great Motorhead albums.
Saxon has Killing Ground 2001, Lionheart 2004, The Inner Sanctum 2007 and Into The labyrinth 2009 wich like Motorhead are all great Saxon albums.
Motorhead and Saxon have put out far batter releases than Judas Priest not only in the 00's but in the 90's as well man(except for 1990 Painkiller album)

Motorhead and Saxon keep putting brand new studio albums out every 2 years on the nose and still manage to tour and put out DVDs ect...so why in the fuck can't Priest do this? Its a "shame".
Motorhead started in 1977 with thier first album,3 years after Judas Priest started with Rocka Rolla in 1974.Saxon started in 1979, 5 years after Judas Priest and Judas Priest has 15 studio albums while Motorhead has 19 studio albums out and Saxon has 18 studio albums out. Priest is slacking.

Halford was smart in buying the rights to all of his music (except Two). So from a business point of view and considering that some if not all of Halford's music is /was out of print then it makes perfect sense for him to generate some cash now that he owns the music rights to Halford. Who can blame him? I would do it.. From a business point of view it makes perfect sense and he's smart to do it becuase there are fans who will buy his music nicely repackaged. AND since Halford started his own record label it makes sense for him to release his own music/videos on his own MGE label. A little co-promoting..............
As far as Priest is concern, I agree in that I am a bit tired of all the remasters of their music in recent years. However JP has blessed us trmendously with a monster catalog of music and if they see a business opportunity to make some money while offering something new like a '09 British Steel DVD...so be it! Imagine if any of us had made music and toured for 40 years and were pushing 60 yrs old, we would be a little tired as well. Judas Priest has well earn the right to rest as long as they want and enjoy the fruits of their labor.
Understandably as hard core fans we still long for the days when Preist treated us with a fresh album every year but those days are long gone. So let's give Priest and Halford a break from our bickering and appreciate what they have done. While other bands are dead, Preist still comes through for their fans!

These albums have not been available in stores for YEARS. Some of them over a decade. If you had the rights and the power to give thousands of people something they're all screaming for, would you give it to them? The thing is he's doing a lot more then just giving them the same thing again, he's making an overall better package, tweaking things that make it better, adding new audio and even artwork. Thats well worth buying it again a fucking DECADE later if you ask me.
#5. Where are you getting 3 live albums from out of the Halford catalogue. Last time I checked there is TWO live albums. Live Insurrection and the new 2 disc live set of the DVD coming out.
#6. Do you even understand why albums are released with bonus tracks? Obviously you dont from the way your talking about them. Bonus tracks are 100% of the time released in places like Japan and Russia and occasionally Europe because they PAY MORE for the albums. Why not give them a little something extra to compensate for the extra cost? Thats the whole point of bonus tracks. Rob's putting those bonus tracks on the albums now so that EVERYONE has a fair chance to get them. Its not a matter of why they weren't good enough in the first place, because they're obviously amazing fucking songs, its a gift to people that pay more for the album. This practice of re-releasing albums with bonus tracks that didn't make the original cut stinks, it is a practice designed to sell the album again. If they weren't good enough then why now? I'm one of the very few who are sickened and tired of all these remastered box-sets of albums that I already have,I'm tired of bands releasing shit that is rehashed in a slightly different format,and I'm also one of the very few who are tired of seeing bands preform an old album in its entirety. But I realize that many people are excited about these kind of things and so be it. The only thing that I'm interested in is a band that I like putting out a brand new album that is worthy,other than that I'll save my cash.

I agree with what jimmy is saying,I know what Joe is saying here,but the fact of the matter here is that this shit is getting "old"...releasing shit over and over again,and they didn't need a remix or remaster of the fuckin Crucible CD my god that CD sounds fine the way it is,if its out of print then they can easily distribute it again the way it is for christ's sake,this remixing and remastering is an excuse to sell the cd again and is the oldest trick in the book,its a joke. And this "British Steel" tour/new remastered/remixed cd is going to go on for about 2 more freaking years if they can milk it that long,they will.
Whats next for 2011? The remixing and remastering of Screaming For Vengeance so that they can milk it till' 2012 when Screaming For Vengeance has been officially out for 30 years? Its all good what they did for British Steel but its going on a year and a half of it right now,by the end of summer I may never listen to British Steel again!! lol! I'm one of the very few who are sickened and tired of all these remastered box-sets of albums that I already have,I'm tired of bands releasing shit that is rehashed in a slightly different format,and I'm also one of the very few who are tired of seeing bands preform an old album in its entirety. But I realize that many people are excited about these kind of things and so be it. The only thing that I'm interested in is a band that I like putting out a brand new album that is worthy,other than that I'll save my cash.

These albums weren't in print anymore. You could not go to a store and buy these albums. That was impossible.
These albums are for people that want a better product OR younger fans that dont already own them....... get it?
Nobody really likes buying stuff second hand, especially online. So why not make these albums available again? Thats the point of releasing them....... so people can buy them again if they want to and the fans that want to buy them for the first time CAN.

I like to buy a cd one time and not go back and buy it again just because it has been remastered and contains a bonus track or two, new art work, liner notes ect. I don't think that makes anyone cheap, its just good business. #2. A Small Deadly Spacae wasn't released as a substandard product. An album is a band's mindset and vision at the time. Thats what they created. Most bands dont have the opportunity to go back and change stuff due to master tapes being lost and record contracts, rights, etc etc. Rob Halford acquired the rights and masteres to ALL his solo work recently. What would you do in that situation as a MUSICIAN who wants to express his art that is no longer available? RELEASE IT AGAIN DUMBASS. He's not guilty of putting out a substandard product, you're just a childish twat that wants the last word. Grow up. Its how people making MONEY. TO LIVE. #3. Every single one of his albums has been out of print for years. He's re-released them in NEW and improved formats, different verions for those who dont want to own the same product a couple times, etc etc.
#4. Rob isn't ripping the fans off. He's GIVING them back something they could no longer acquire. How's is that ripping them off? Or are you really that fucking cheap? These albums have not been available in stores for YEARS. Some of them over a decade. If you had the rights and the power to give thousands of people something they're all screaming for, would you give it to them? The thing is he's doing a lot more then just giving them the same thing again, he's making an overall better package, tweaking things that make it better, adding new audio and even artwork. Thats well worth buying it again a fucking DECADE later if you ask me.
#5. Where are you getting 3 live albums from out of the Halford catalogue. Last time I checked there is TWO live albums. Live Insurrection and the new 2 disc live set of the DVD coming out.
#6. Do you even understand why albums are released with bonus tracks? Obviously you dont from the way your talking about them. Bonus tracks are 100% of the time released in places like Japan and Russia and occasionally Europe because they PAY MORE for the albums. Why not give them a little something extra to compensate for the extra cost? Thats the whole point of bonus tracks. Rob's putting those bonus tracks on the albums now so that EVERYONE has a fair chance to get them. Its not a matter of why they weren't good enough in the first place, because they're obviously amazing fucking songs, its a gift to people that pay more for the album. Not cheap fuckers like yourself.

This practice of re-releasing albums with bonus tracks that didn't make the original cut stinks, it is a practice designed to sell the album again. If they weren't good enough then why now? Also rereleasing an album with a new track sucks too, do 1/10 of the work and make the same amount of money as you would if you wrote a whole new album because die-hard fans will want to have everything and buy it again. I'm one of the very few who are sickened and tired of all these remastered box-sets of albums that I already have,I'm tired of bands releasing shit that is rehashed in a slightly different format,and I'm also one of the very few who are tired of seeing bands preform an old album in its entirety. But I realize that many people are excited about these kind of things and so be it. The only thing that I'm interested in is a band that I like putting out a brand new album that is worthy,other than that I'll save my cash.

Blah,well in my opinion it was ridiculous for Halford to remix and remaster the Crucible CD that was just created only 8 years ago? I mean to me the original CD sounds absolutely fine,and in my opinion its just another way of making an extra buck off the fans. But I realize that many people are excited about these kind of things and so be it. The only thing that I'm interested in is a band that I like putting out a brand new album that is worthy,other than that I'll save my cash.

You would want to purchase the album again because the remix is a million times better then the original? Like I just said. Remixes are DIFFERENT from the original. Its the songs reworked and in this case the remix is way better then the original. Production wise, vocal wise, instrument wise, arrangement wise, its ALL better.
And the main reason Halford is releasing all this stuff again IS BECAUSE ITS OUT OF PRINT. When was the last time you saw this shit in a music store? I for one personally can't wait for the Anaheim DVD and double live album because its gonna be fucking amazing.
Also can't wait for the Crucible remix/remaster because it DOES sound better, and it also has ALL of the Crucible songs you previously could only get on the Jap or Euro versions.
Is that not reason enough?
I'm not a picky person at all but when they is an overall BETTER product out there, why not get the best one available?
No because I already own Fights two studio albums and resent the fact that Halford is trying to sell them to me again. And I don't really think Small Deadly Space was that good anyway so why would I want to purchase a remixed version of it.

Well J.D., I'll jump on board with that one. I don't purchase re-releases and thought the exact same
thing you did when I heard about Crucible. I getting tired of the tours also. I will probably hit that Slayer,
Megadeth, Testament tour because those are some of my favorite bands. I was glad when Priest did
British Steel though. I had tickets for the original but they cancelled. Judas, Scorpions, and Def Leppard.
Tickets were $4.50 (I'm serious) and they cancelled for lack of ticket sales. It would have been my first
Priest show. I felt I was seeing something I got cheated out of 30 years ago so I was happy. I was amazed
afterwards that they still sounded so powerful. I know they are closing in on the end so to hear them

SLAYER — guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, bassist/vocalist Tom Araya, and drummer Dave Lombardo — scored a major breakthrough upon the original release of "Seasons In The Abyss" (SLAYER's fifth studio album overall), as it was the group' first album to hit the U.S. Top 40, and saw SLAYER playing to the biggest crowds of their career on '91's "Clash of the Titans" tour.
MEGADETH's fourth album, "Rust In Peace", saw the band cement their status as one of the most important metal bands with masterpieces like "Hangar 18" and "Holy Wars...The Punishment Due", as well as a top 25 debut on the Billboard chart. The album has been hailed as one of the greatest heavy metal albums of all time, with IGN recently naming it one of the most influential metal albums ever. MEGADETH is now rejoined by original bassist Dave Ellefson and are firing on all cylinders.
The American Carnage tour, originally scheduled to take place in January and February, had to be postponed due to SLAYER vocalist/bassist Tom Araya's treatment for severe back pain, an occupational hazard for the rocker who is known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing. A surgical procedure in January corrected the problem once and for all, and he felt better almost immediately.
"Right after the surgery," said Araya, "I could tell that the issue was fixed. There's no more pain, it just feels really good. I'm really excited and I'm anxious to get together with the rest of the guys and start rehearsing again. We cancelled two tours, and I don't feel great about that, but I couldn't deal with the pain anymore, and that's now completely gone. I know the fans are excited to see the band - the tour is on, we're keeping our word, there will be no more cancellations."

Crucible needed the remaster badly. Same as A Small Deadly Space. They both sound a million times better production wise now being reMIXED and mastered. Eveyrthing is less muddied and more upfront.

Dave Mustaine Interview
Chris A. of Hardrock Haven recently conducted an interview with MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
Hardrock Haven: As MEGADETH's frontman, is the fact that you always keep the band stocked with incredible guitarists designed to give you the opportunity to "step out" a bit with your vocals or does it push you to be a better guitar player?
Dave Mustaine: Well, if it's afforded me the opportunity to step out as a vocalist, I haven't done it yet, 'cause I'm not a very confident with myself as a singer. I wasn't a singer when I started, I just liked playing the guitar, and in fact, in my last band that's all I did — play lead guitar. That's what my trade is. I remember one night on New Year's Eve, me and Dave Ellefson [MEGADETH bassist] were rehearsing and we had some guy come down and audition for the band and he walked in and had fucking eyeliner on. He did have a bunch of beer and me and Dave were living in Dave's van mooching off chicks at the time, so we drank all of his beer, and let him sing awhile as long as the beer lasted. After it was gone, we said "You're fired." I mean, I can't have a guy with eyeliner in MEGADETH, for Pete's sake! So Dave said, "Why don't you sing?" I tried it but it felt like I had a railroad spike going through my eyeballs because I didn't know how to breathe. When you sing, if you push all that air out of your body singing, no matter how cool you think you might look, you're doing down because you're gonna faint. I tried singing, I didn't like it but ended up doing it because we couldn't find anyone.
Hardrock Haven: Did you take any vocal lessons?
Dave Mustaine: I took two vocal lessons, but I won't tell you their names. One was a 70-year-old woman in Hollywood who stood behind me and stuck her hands down my pants. I thought, you know, this is fucked up. Then there was another one by a guy in Hollywood who asked me to unbutton my pants so he could examine my diaphragm. I said, "Dude, my diaphragm is up here. Diaphragms in pants belong in females." So I'm not sure what my private parts have to do with a vocal lesson but I guess it's got something to do with breathing. It was really too weird for me. I thought, if this is part of being a vocalist, I'll be a professional yeller.
Hardrock Haven: Your newest release, "Endgame", is a great metal disc, what was the inspiration behind your song "1320'"? Obviously, it's about drag racing but what prompted to you write the song?
Dave Mustaine: What happened was when I was a kid, I used to go to the Orange County International Raceway. I was an entrepreneur. My mom moved out when I was 13 so I had to learn how to live on the streets so I was sort of like Oliver Twist. I was a street urchin. I would go to the racetrack and buy a ticket. On the way to the track I would stop by the drugstore and I got a pack of those rainbow pens. I went inside and they stamped my hand, I went back outside into the parking lot and pan-handled tickets all day for all the booze and drugs and cash that I could possibly stuff in my little teenage pockets. Then I would go inside and watch the main event and watch the nitro cars. Ever since I was 13 I've been fascinated with racing. I would go to the fairgrounds and watch motocross, I love the smell of the motorcycles and the speedway. It's kind of a bummer now because you're so close to the track and people are fucking drunk off their butts and they want me to sign shit and take photos and I just wanna see the race. For me, if I go out to do something I'm going out to do something, not sign autographs. That's why I don't go out very much because I don't want people to think that I'm a snob. I don't want to be rude, I try to be fan-friendly because I know who gave me this fabulous lifestyle — the gift came from the Lord, but I wouldn't be here without the fan support.
Hardrock Haven: You've got an autobiography about to be published. What was it like for you to see the part of your life that your going to make public laid out in paper?
Dave Mustaine: It's been out there forever, because I've been very open about my career since I started. I don't think there's any reason to hide shit because people find out. And if you take the wind out of their sails they can't use it against you. It's not self-deprecation or anything like that, but for me, I think what it is this righteous transparency that when you people talk to me they know what they are getting. They know that I'm not a bullshitter and they know that I'm fairly intelligent on stuff I'm talking about because if I don't know about a subject, I won't talk about it.
It is with great sadness that we report the news that Peter Steele, iconic frontman of Brooklyn goth-metal legends Type O Negative, passed away at 6pm yesterday due to heart failure.
With a sense of humor blacker than the clothing he wore, the sarcastic messages in songs like “Set Me on Fire,”“I Don’t Want to Be Me” and an album entitled Life is Killing Me once viewed as darkly tongue-in-cheek now take on a more gloomy meaning as we remember the man who wrote them. SVP of A&R Monte Conner, who originally signed Type O Negative to Roadrunner Records in 1989 puts it best, saying:
"We have lost several Roadrunner artists over the years but this is a biggie – this one hurts the most, not just because Peter was a great, great guy, but he figures so prominently in the history of this company (our first Gold album, our first radio success). He was a tortured soul for most of his life and certainly for the entire time we all knew him. Let’s hope he is in a better place."
Pete Steele was surely a man who towered over everyone he met, not just in his physical stature but in his personality riddled with humor and heartache. His dramatic baritone voice carried foreboding lyrics about death and despair over electronic chaos and bottom-heavy guitars, proving to become not only the band’s signature, but a sound unmatched ever since Type O’s inception. With profound distaste and disgust for both humanity and political correctness, Type O Negative
never changed with the times - the times changed with them. Marked by sharp wit and bouts of gloom 'n depression, Peter Steele and the Drab Four rewarded their listeners with what can only be expected from the Brooklyn doom squad: A nihilistic world view, anthems of sex and death, and a blinding torch of well-placed fury.
Just to add, I saw these guys a few years back, and, well.. they weren't great. Good but not great (especially coming on after Paradise Lost, who were awesome). And forty minutes late on stage. All the tour reviews ripped 'em to shreds. The band looked out of it, except Pete Steele- who saved the set in my opinion. I remember him looming over the crowd, and that fantastic deep voice that still seems to be totally unique in a world where every metal singer seems to want to be, well, Rob Halford. I'm listening to October Rust as I write this, and its still a wonderful piece of songwriting.
RIP Pete Steele. I wish I had had the chance to see Type O Negative at their best.

New Dimebag/Damageplan Song Coming In The Next Metal Hammer Magazine.
This month's issue of U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine comes packaged with a previously unheard track that was recorded by the late PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott.
SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo, who produced the song, tells the magazine, "I got the track and put it into Pro Tools and trimmed the edges and made it shine a bit but the true producer and engineer was Dime. The sounds you hear are the ones he recorded, I just cleaned it up.
"I've never done anything like this and it was an honor to work on something that no one has ever heard and to be one of the first to listen to it.
"[Dime's former girlfriend] Rita [Haney] told me about the song, about Zakk [Wylde] and the whole the story about them getting together and ending up drunk. It's really cool.
"Rita fills me in and all the stories are so great. They had such a nice life.
"I've come know more about him and his impact later in life than I did at the time. You really appreciate his art and what he contributes to metal."
Other bands featured on the CD include SOULFLY, BLEEDING THROUGH, CANCER BATS and THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN.
"Dimebag" Darrell was co-founder and lead guitarist for PANTERA. When PANTERA broke up in 2003, Dimebag and his brother Vinnie Paul formed DAMAGEPLAN. On Dec. 8, 2004, while performing with DAMAGEPLAN at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio, Dimebag was shot and killed onstage by Nathan Gale. He was 38 years old.

Rush was one of my favorite bands when I was young. The last time I saw them live was 1994.
I hated them and swore I'd never go see them again. Even though the "Classic Album tours" are
becoming a little monotonous "Moving Pictures" was the last Rush album that I liked.
