Good morning fellow Metalheads

Budred and Becks, as a former U.S. Marine I thank you!!

Wow!  I thought I'd have more time to play but 52 hours at work last week and 64 this week, I'm pooped!!  lol  No complaints though as the holidays are drawing near and with high unemployment, I thank God every day for my job!!

HB, minimum wage here in the States is $7.55 / hr, though individual States can mandate a higher amount and some do.
I totally agree that theft from the company cannot be ignored!!  No excuse for that!!  Safety violations are serious as well, but I've learned that every situation is usually unique unto itself and requires a thorough investigation.
As far as workers themselves hating their union, I've never really heard of such a thing.  I can understand workers not liking the politics involved or that it's hard for a company to reward good employees because of their contract, or that maybe they've had a bad experience with a rep and feel that they deserved better because that sometimes does happen especially if the rep(s) are not well trained or knowledgeable.  Again, most situations are unique unto themselves.
I've found that the rep usually gets a bad rap when something goes wrong because it's easier to be mad at and take frustration out on a co-worker (which a rep is) than to lash out and those in management who wronged them and for obvious reasons, no fear of losing their job that way.  A lot of times a worker may have issues that just aren't grieveable regardless of how wronged they feel and because the rep can't do anything about it, they take it out on them.

Spa, yes!  Any non-union employer in the statee of Indiana can terminate an employee "at will", and that sucks!!  No warning, no just cause!!  For this reason alone it pays to be under a union umbrella!!

Ha! Thank you Spa! And Vail! My coco heros lol..

OMW!! I just got back from a day of offroad motorcycle training. I feel like my back is about to break! Lots of balance stuff on the bike from 9am til 3:30pm and I am stuffed! But learnt a lot of cool stuff like riding with one foot off the peg and then riding whilst kneeling on the sadle.. felt very weird at first but once mastered was pretty cool ha ha ha. Also sitting side saddle while riding. Now I'm not too sure how that is supposed to help me for general off roading but it was still pretty cool to be able to do. In case I haven't made my point clear : MY BACK IS KILLING ME!!! lol. Now I have to go and catch my kids bunnies, out them back in their hatch and then go teach my Sunday School class.. No rest for the wicked... or the peacemakers either ha ha ha~

Yesterday, the yearly "Gumpathon" ended its 63 day run to raise money for the troops. I figure that if a man with no legs can run and others can do 85 / 86 miles in one day I could donate and run my eight. Amazing people.

Yes, lest we forget. And thank you to every single veteran out there for their sacrifices!

Haven't been able to post much lately cos I've been so busy, and today has been crazy thanks to family drama. Long story, but it's ongoing. It's not Craig either in case anyone wonders if something has happened over there lol.

yep.  of course theft of company property... hard to let that go.  repeated safety violations that lead to 4 of your co workers writing in complaints, after being placed on probation, not good.  sigh.  the problem is that 80% of workers hate the union, but none have any interest in removing it.  so the few who will represent them end up on the outside of their co workers.  the problem is that the union has all these issues to discuss, some real, some bullshit that these 2 fools and a few others gave them, and no understanding.  so now they need someone to explain them and help them negotiate it, since they told the membership they would work on these things.  one was improving health and safety, which they need to let us fire those who drive van loads of people thru three red lights in one day.  if we get this contract done before december 2012 I will be surprised.  of course thats at a rate of 5 bargaining days in six months.

interesting about the At will legislation.  most states are that way but alow for implied contract, which I would think makes a bit more sense.  our rules are like those that Spa described, need to prove that you tried to corect the behavior and the worker would not except in severe cases.

Re your coment to Becks.  I think you confused vacation and holiday.  our vacation is their holidays.  so you get 11 stat holidays and three weeks vacation.  out of curiosity what is the legal min wage and min vacation statute there?

[spapad] Monday, November 08, 2010 8:21:30 PM
Wow, your employer has the will to fire you for no reason? No matter how long  you have been there?  Here, only in your first 90 days of employment can you fire someone without a just reason, after that you have to follow protocol and write them up, 2 times and third is suspension without pay, 4 is fired. Of couse that is for stuff like no call no show too many late times etc... If you do something truely out of line you'll get fired on the spot.  No wonder you need unions with that kind of hire/fire bottom line.

I know NJ is suffering huge embarassment from the "jersey shore" fools and have had to deal with Bon Jovi, but still they don't take it on the chin as bad as poor WV, one of the poorest states in the Union. I fee rather fortunate they broke off from us during the war. The whole of the United States thinks of them as inbred, uneducated, hillbillies. There is about 5 to maybe 10 % of the population that truly own that moniker! The problem is they are such loud mouth nasties, they always leave an impression on those they meet.
So, while I live in VA and work in WV, I'd NEVER want to live in WV. Couldn't stand the shame! lol

[ron h] Monday, November 08, 2010 7:37:37 PM

Spa, all a right to work state does is allow a worker to have a choice in whether they want to join the union or not if there is a union at that facility.  Even though it keeps the facility from being a closed shop (meaning you must join the union to work there), the worker can choose to pay the union to represent them if the need arises.  Indiana is an at will state which means an employer doesn't have to have a reason to terminate your employment.  Having a union in our plant changes that in that my employer cannot terminate me without just cause.

Becks, I totally get where you're coming from as far as all them paid holidays.  The company we support gets 16!!  Here are the days we get paid for:  New Years, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Independance Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve, Christmas and New Years Eve.

HB, you fired 2 of the union bargainers??  lol  That's one way to make your point!!  lol

By the way, I thought New Jersey was the laughing stock of the U.S., and I refuse to change my opinion of Bon Jovi!!!

How's everyone this fine and sunny Monday? Well, not sunny here but it must be somewhere in the world lol. I'm good.. Getting ready for one last evening class and then I can relax 'til the end of the year.. As far as night classes go. Still got two more kids concerts to get through then we done for the year. Saturday was hectic as hell but well worth it. Had to literally be in three places at one time. Managed to do the morning rehearsal, then Zoey's first Ballet show at the same time as Zakk's karate grading. Lucky they have two parents lol. So we split up and each grabbed a kid and headed to an event. Then Zoey's second ballet show was in the evening so I had that shift. Craig had to do sound for the CMA fallen bikers memorial and then CMA meeting so I hardly saw him all of yesterday. Well tired and looking forward to the week so that we can see each other and get some rest! lol

Kurt finished in 3:27, placing him 4226 out of 45,000 runners. I didn't see him finish (again) but was in the bleachers enjoying the great atmosphere. What a day!

good stuff.  I cant imagine that, let alone the kind of times the top compeditive runers get to.

The Chilean did pretty darn well. Saw that he had both knees iced down at one point. "Screw with the training," hell..I was thinking that it would have been difficult to even register. His story sure beats the hell out of Jared, IMO.

I really find it sad that the world is more interested in the celebs than the actual winner. Seriously, try searching for the winning time and you'll be forced to slog through countless pages talking about "Jared, the Subway guy!" Maybe if the three Africans that took men's 1, 2, and 3 were on "Dancing With the Stars..."

I'm from a right to work state. Unions exist but are not very influencial anymore.

I rememer when I was a child watching the news on months long miner strikes. The media always went and found the miner who lived in a cabin with an outhouse, who was the most uneducated person to find in the area.

For that reason alone I'm glad that VA, and finally WV, are right to work states. Got tired of people thinking just because of the state I was from when we vacationed north that we all lived on hilltops past Richmond and all have nothing but farms. I really hated that dated opinion of our state. Unfortunately, that opinion is still out there. Not so much for VA but WV is the laughing stock of the U.S.  Glad my plates read VA.

sounds good.  I am on the company side of our negotiations, started with a 2 day set in july, had 2 days set in september, but we fired 2 of the three barganing comitee members inbetween, and they were the ones with the most issues, so we agreed to cut the september dates to one day.  next is 2 in December.    hope we get somewhere, I think as of now we have either agreed or agreed to withdraw 4 of 83 uniton proposals and 1 of 4 company proposals.  at this rate the deal will be done about the same time as my pension starts.

Nice job! I'd love to have 11 paid holidays a year! I'd also love it much if our employer picked up more on our health insurance than they do, but  our premiums would go down dramtically if we could get everyone there to participate in the insurance, but it's hard to  get employees who work at lower wages to even  consider health insurance. As for the vacation, I should be coming up on 3 weeks this spring myself! Now, if they could just give us sick days that weren't such a joke. lol

Some of the gains we made on the economic side are we now have 11 paid Holidays a year, 3 weeks paid vacation, employer paid health insurance and a $.75 raise!!

Good morning fellow Metalheads

Well, it's finally over with!!  As most of you know I'm a union negotiator at the plant I work at.  We've been in negotiations for a new contract since March and it's now a done deal!!  The ratification vote was about 92% in favor of, which, to me, is vindication of the comittees hard work.  In this day and age when unions are getting weaker, every contract gets harder and harder to make gains on.  Fortunately, we made no concessions anywhere and made gains all across the board.

Now that this is over with, I can now come out and play a little more and Bev can quit rolling her eyes at me lol!!

Well, I must apologize for being so on and off this year. It's been a tough one for me with incredibly high highs and lower than low lows. There's been times when I've asked why, been really angry and broken down and then times where I've been lifted up, comforted and enveloped in the deepest love from members of this board, My God and the wonderful people in my life.
Life has been at a beyond hectic pace this year and not just mine, I get from a sense that all of our lives are just speeding up big time. Scares me to think we're a few weeks away from Christmas again. I haven't even had time to think of what Priestly items I want to ask Santa for ha ha ha!

I have NO idea what "Norm" did for a living. Pretty sure guids does, though...HA!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I am pretty fussy so ....just saying. HAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!! Anyway, nice to be "missed", regardless of how it is presented!!
