YES !  THANK YOU !  THIS HAS BEEN DRIVING ME NUTS FOR ALMOST A YEAR !       I had even posted on Vivian's web site in "ask Viv", but I never got a response.  Everyone kept telling me I was nuts and it's a Nightswan.  I knew it wasn't, but could not remember the name for the life of me.  [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by SDBinNY from Saturday, July 12, 2008 3:36:03 PM)

If memory serves me correctly, that guitar in the Whitesnake video is a Rand. Prior to the Nightswans, Vivian never really had a sponsorship. Although he was given a Charvel, Charvel/Jackson players never got a sponsorship deal other than one free guitar a year.

Yes, as in Buddy Blaze, but the maker of the guitar came to M.I. and tried to sell them to us and it wasn't him.  They were $1200, but he'd be willing to deal if we could order 3 or more.  Yeah, right !  M.I. students are even poorer than other students.

Those Nightswan`s were fabulous! There`s been a link floating around that will take you a vintage sight that has alot of info on the Nightswan and it`s creation, unfortunately,I don`t know it!  Blaze? As in Buddy Blaze?Edited at: Saturday, July 12, 2008 9:25:18 AM

I know I've been down this road before, but this is the guitar I'm talking about.  It's NOT a Blaze.  Trust me.  I met the maker at M.I.T.  Baddest axe I've ever played.  AND I MEAN EVER !    See Vivian.  www.youtube.com/watch

For me, it was the sound of Ted Nugent's "Cat Scratch Fever".  That sound was just the most agressive and powerful thing I had ever heard.

When i was a little kid. like 3 years old. I heard this fucking killer guitar in my head. It could have bben the "Are you Expirienced" 8 track in the TRuck.   The guitar sound in my head, and i went for THat.

My fingers are too short.  I have to have the thin and narrow necks.  The easiest guitar I ever played was one of the "snake skin" style Warren DiMartini guitars made by Performance.  It seemed so small.  They told me they had scaled it down a little for easier playing, but I wouldn't know if that's true or not.  All I know is my little hands got around that neck like  .    .    .    .    .

The Ibanez Wizard necks are fabulous! They have 2 or 3 versions of the neck, each one is a progression of the last one. They are amazing. My personal favorite for necks is still the Jackson dual compound radius necks though. I like them wide and flat. The Ibanez Wizards are actually thinner than the Jackson`s but the same(or nearly) the same width. either one is a beauty to hold!!

Mhm. I played my uncles Ibanez a few times, and it was really easy, compared to my Strat. Nice neck, strings were really low, almost touching the fretboard... Really cool.

I never played an SG before, but it looks cool to me. I specialy like it how the highest notes are very accesible (or seem to be, anyway). On a strat, I almost have to break my fingers when I want to play above the 17th fret on the low strings.

I had a red Bich and a black Warlock back in the early 80's.  Very cool looking, but very heavy.  That's what gave them their growl !

From my experience, I think the reason that people say the SG has such a fast neck is because it's so much sleeker than a Les Paul or any other Gibson that I've ever played.  Flater, narrower and just plain easier to get around.  I'd still toss it aside for an Ibanez for playing ease though.
[Redman] Tuesday, July 08, 2008 12:56:08 AM
Fastest necks available? I doubt that, but they are great guitars overall. I think Glenn loves SG necks so much that his Hamer guitars have same kind of necks as his old SGs.

I have heard a few times over the years that the SG`s have the fastest necks available. Never gottten to play a real SG.

Telecaster's shape is something that I don't really like, but the guitar is excellent itself. Strats have great feel.. the bodies are excellent, but the bolt on neck sucks... But that's not part of the Strat's shape of course. I'm also sure that many Super Strats are great... Like Ibanez' Jem guitars... must be excellent. Flying V is a bit problematic by it's shape really, but its much better when playing from the upper frets than most of the other guitars... Gibson SG feels pretty good as well. Strat and SG might be my favourites, the shape.

Ibanez make some awesome guitars! No doubt about that. You`re right about the Les pauls ,they are heavy. The BC Rich that I have is light, but it`s made of Alder I think? I have held some that were very heavy(Mockingbird and the Bich)

Yes, I have nice lines...

Seriously tho, I think that the shape of a stratocaster, or a telecaster is impossible to beat. I played quite a few guitars, but I still think that those two are the best. Gibson Les Paul is like weight-lifting, imo, and same is BC rich (tho I never played a BC rich guitar - just a friends bass which is a copy of a BC Rich).

Also, some Ibanez guitars (the ones that look similar to Fender Strats) are pretty cool.

For smooth flowing lines, the Strat is hard to beat. I personally prefer the Strat type of body, they seem to fit me well. I`ve had a variety of guitars over the years, but the start is always my go to shape. the Les paul type is cool, as of recent years had some Epiphone LP`s,but  they just don`t fit me as well.
The angular bodies of the Warlock and the Splitail can be hard to get used to!

[guitardude] Sunday, July 06, 2008 12:26:37 PM
Yep! those are the one`s! I never had a real warlock, only copies, but it was always one of my all time favorites! And Dean makes a badass guitar, never owned one,but would like to.

The BC Rich Warlock is an obvious influence ,but it also has the Dean Spiltail shape to it as well. Good design,a little refinement and you may be on to something there.   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Metal Jesus from Saturday, July 05, 2008 3:34:29 PM)

Here's a guitar I drew a while ago. I don't have a name for it, and I was thinking what you people here thought of it and maybe could help name it. If I'm not mistake, no guitar has the back end that it has and the front end is like a Beast/Warlock combo haha. Headstock is a bit of a rip-off of a B.C. Rich too.

So any thoughts on it?

[guitardude] Monday, June 30, 2008 3:43:14 PM
I printed the page and will put it in tab for myself as to hopefully better figure out what I`m doing ,once I play it ,it will make more sense to me. Man, my wife is gonna think something`s up because I keep grabbing my guitar again every afternoon. I had gotten to where I was only diddling about 30 minutes on the weekends(if that much) lately!!
but ,I have a good excuse,i`ve been riding the motorcycle alot  in the past few weeks, kind of easy to get lost on that thing!!

"invade" all you want.  As you can see, I'm not exactly infallible myself.  Very little of what I say or do I take very seriously.  It's just hard to tell when it's in type.

Ok, it's official.  I'm a flake.  I forgot the a note on the G string.  Ha !  What's new ?  Forgot the flat 5.

4 - 5 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 10 - 12

Now this is wierd, but not a mistake.  Sometimes when finishing a phrase, I'll hammer on and pull off on the B string between the 5th and 6th fret.  Then play the 6th fret on the G string ( C# / Dd ) then back to the B string 5th fret ( E ) and close it on the D string 7th fret ( A ).  It's out of tune a bit, but it's quick and adds an exotic sound that I like.
[TIMBONI] Sunday, June 29, 2008 2:21:50 PM
No.  You are right. I got confused when I translated the paragraph.  The second half starting on the 12th fret is ok, but the first part starting on the E string is like Redman said.

    5 - 7 - 8 - 10 - 12 - 13 - 15 - 17
    5 - 6 - 8 - 10 - 12 - 13
4 -5 - 7 - 9 - 10 - 12
     5 - 7 - 9 - 10 - 12
     5 - 7 - 8 - 10 - 12
     5 - 7 - 8

I think that is correct now.  Sorry if I led anybody down a wierd track.

Now the
12
9-10-12
is one that I do and that I like. I only know this because I played just a minute ago. I`ll have to actually look at where I`m at on the board to put them down. I haven`t done anything creative (aka challenging and /or original) in so long I just follow what I`ve done for years over and over. Man! I need a challenge. This just may be what I need to go again!

I've sometimes used a 'scale' that is like:

5 - 7 - 8
5 - 6 - 8
4 - 5 - 7
5 - 7
5 - 7 - 8
5 - 7 - 8

I think... hmm, but I try this scale of yours. :)

Ok G'Dude.  This is like the ladies tradin' recipes.  Now you gotta give me somethin'.
[TIMBONI] Saturday, June 28, 2008 8:22:25 PM
Those are just basic shapes.  The key is to introduce the flat 5 note into the Natural Minor Scale to sleaze it up a bit.
[TIMBONI] Saturday, June 28, 2008 8:21:16 PM
By string, starting on the low E at the 5th fret :

5 - 7 - 8
5 - 7 - 8
5 - 7
4 -5 - 7
5 - 6 - 8
5 - 7 - 8

Thats the base.  You can also tie it together with the A on the 12th fret, 5th string starting with the pinky :

12
9 - 10 - 12
9 - 10 - 12
10 - 12- 13
10 - 12 - 13 - 15 - 17
