I have plenty of lemon oil on hand, I even use it to lube the trem.. I have to polish the frets first, though, will be stopping at Home Depot for some painters tape and finer than frog hair steel wool..

I am not sure if the green is staying or not, it is far from my favorite color. I think I might go for some dark shade of purple with a pearl clear.  As for pickups, I have heard a lot of good things about GFS, and they are extremely reasonable, so I may give them a shot first..

Nice Green. Looks like my Green Jack

Try some lemon oil, soaks in quick and lasts a long time. Do we see some EMG`s in this one`s future?   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by SDBinNY from Tuesday, May 11, 2010 1:00:17 PM)

Duncan Designed 103's... I guess they are modelled after the JB, which is far from my favorite pickup.... Still need to work on it some, the fretboard is drier than a popcorn fart.....

Well, I am a happy camper today. My oldest who just finished his first 4 week stint of guitar lesson`s has decided to keep playing and continue with lesson`s. He has made great stride`s in his playing but still has a long , long way to go.

I like the soloist that takes chances. Certain changes make he heart bleed, sometimes the only way to arrive at that point is to start out not knowing where to go.

I love the Going for it soloing type player.
[J.D. DIAMOND] Tuesday, April 13, 2010 3:09:29 PM
Actually watching Glenn Tipton helped me use my pinky finger for soloing years ago,I can't do solos like Glenn and K.K.'s top-notch-fast stuff or like Glenn's in Painkiller, but I can do something like the solos in Electric Eye...thats as far as I really can go without actually taking guitar lessons or watching a video for lessons ect... I've never watched a video for guitar lessons or had anybody teach me,I've learned all by myself,I do more solos like Jimmy Page,Ace Frehley and Angus Young...stuff like that mixed with some solos that are easy for Glenn and K.K..

But I like playing in the vien of old these rock solos because although Steve Via,Yngwie Malmsteen ect..are all kick ass and thier jaw-dropping excellent guitar soloing is something I'll never be able to do at the same time its something I've NEVER wanted to sound like or being "that good" because everybody sounds like that these days man,I like the old 70's twanggy sounding guitar solos like Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath in the early days, shit like that to me has punch and balls and has more attitude than Yngwie. Glenn and K.K. are top-notch shredders too but they have that old-school punch and balls attitude.

I used to do power chords with my index and ring finger, but I needed to work on my pinky strength badly, so now I do them with my pinky instead.

I'm a rhythm guitarist so I dont have to worry about soloing. :D
[K2M] Tuesday, April 13, 2010 12:33:03 PM
You have long fingers.
Try the chord with fingers 1 & 3.
You could try the chord with fingers 1 & 2
It is a good excersize to make the two fret stretch(fret 1 up to a third fret) with Fingers 1 & 2. That stretch is a good setup for soloing.
you get a six fret stretch.   start anywhere, 1 finger fret one then finger 2 goes to the third fret.  finger 3 goes to the fourth fret. the pinky streches to the sixth fret. Edited at: Tuesday, April 13, 2010 12:35:52 PM Edited at: Tuesday, April 13, 2010 12:38:17 PM

Oh NICE, MM!!!!!!! VERY nice!!! Love the Schecter!!!! Dude, very cool!! Can't wait to hear it LIVE!!!!!!!!!!  HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!  Our guitarist (Hawkeye) uses a  blue Jackson that looks VERY similar to your guitar there on the left (Ibanez, right?) His is some Van Halen thingy. He runs a full Marshall stack and it really blares. I cannot comment on those pedal things since I would not know what is what. He uses two onstage as well. I use a VocalPro 2000 (?) for my live vocal effects. I only use it for short bursts of echo in songs like Rebel Yell and such. I hate relying on those things since I feel it takes from the vocal performance when you over do it!!!

We actually blew a main on the PA last show!! THAT is a piss off! $700 to replace it but we really need it. We have a show tonight but will not need our own PA, as the place has their own but we will need ours in two weeks!!! The subs are those B52 deals. VERY powerful as well. Overall , a really nice sound system.

But yeah I'm definitly gonna do a better version when I get some free time. The only part I have to figure out is that part at the very end where I was strumming really fast sliding down the neck.

I know what you mean, but I have a houseful of girls that want to learn. I think the hardest part is watching them develop dexterity, because we have been at it so long that it is hardly a thought for us most of the time. As much as I despise tabs, it seemed to help them out if I gave them one and let them deal with it at their own pace. Although it is nothing they do consitantly, we go through this during the winter months the most.....

I was impressed by the thumb behind the neck Joe. I do the same. If i am chording in the first postion my thumb comes up. I am conscious of my thumb postion.

I just feel more comfortable with the thumb over, I switch between hanging and planted on the neck a lot. I just do what feels naturally, but I aim aware of the "proper" technique and all that stuff.

As for my fingers, can't really help that haha, my fingers are fucked. Especially the pinky and ring finger, they lock all the time.

The guitar is fixed now. I even learned how to set the intonation properly by myself too.

Damn good stuff, Joe, keep it up... One little bit of advice, try to keep your thumb off the top of the neck. Plant it in the middle of the neck, and let your fingers straighten out.

What was the issue with the guitar, or haven't you had it looked at yet?

Yeah it did take a while haha, but it was totally worth it.

For that kind of guitar the action is so LOW..... its amazing how low it is. Get some fretbuzz but you get that everywhere.

This guitar is definitly a step up from the previous version they had of it.

And my knob setup is strange.

You know how the first knob is suppose to be volume? It isnt..... its like a second tone knob, except BOTH knobs work at the same time for whatever pickup selection you have. It makes no sense haha.

Looks killer, Joe. Really cool that they relocated the jack on those, too. I don't like the cord sticking out of the lower bout like the older models had, they area  disaster waiting to happen. Took them long enough to get it to you, though, and I hope it was worth the wait !

[guitardude] Tuesday, February 16, 2010 5:34:59 PM
K2M
Very cool, glad I could help. I think the Screamin Demon`s geared for a more high mid tone that makes the harmonics jump out with a smooth low and low mid to give george that creamy overdriven sound he has. It`s a great pu either way.
The X2N is a screamer, very highoutput. Watch the lows, it can get muddy. The X2n should work better with the EL-34 tubes since they are focused more in the mids. On  6L6`s or 5881`s , you may have to roll the low end back and crank up the highs. I`m eager to hear them, let me know when you post some tunes with both pu`s!

Guitardude. I went for the Dimarzio X2N. Ordered it yesterday. That will go in V.
I really like the "Screaming Demon". It is a Med. Output, but very crunchy. The clarity is amazing. good for recording.
THat will go in the Soloist. That one plays like butter. which is cool for a while. THe Demon will give the axe the Kill sound. The Trembuckers were too muddy
[guitardude] Wednesday, January 27, 2010 6:43:19 PM
K2M
Had to give some thought, but if you want a screamer, then try the Seymour Duncan Full Shred or the Dimebucker models. For Dimarzio, try the X2N, all of those are very high output and full frequency pu`s. They should satisfy your craving .

The pickups are stock Peavey, but are listed as a high output. They have a very smooth and creamy tone like an old PAF. My pickups of choice are Duncan Distortions, good full frequency and high output without being over the top. I have also used Dimarzio Tone Zones and the Fred model, but only becaue they were cheaper than the Duncans and I was changing out 4 pickups at once in 2 guitars. But I haven`t ever used the Screamin Demon, not that I don`t want to, just haven`t.
I just couldn`t come to terms with the EMG`s in the Jackson, not bright enough. They had such a high signal strength and absolutely no noise at all, just to dark for what I wanted.
that top is a Flamed maple with a translucent Amber top, just like EVH used for years. This is sort of my tribute to him in a round about way. The neck is unfinished spalted maple, and a smaller radius than the Jackson, but sweet none the less.

The top on that thing is gorgeous !!! I love how they did the truss rod on that one, no need to play with covers or take the neck off to adjust it...

I hope this one gets the tone you are after, I know you had a lot of issues with the Jackson. The guy I sold my KV2 to is also having the same dilema, but he would have to dremel the routes out for the pickups he wants in it..

The original Dual Rectifiers were only two channel, so that is a farely rare find, I`d work on them on that price though, seems a bit steep for an amp that`s 20 years old, maybe around 1000.00, now is that Canadian or American dollars? Shouldn`t matter since the Canadian dollar is almost equal to ours now.

I just ordered the new JS320t whatever the fuck its called.

The new JS series King V. The grey one on there site.

I think its gonna be worth it man. It was only like 358$. Jackson is always fucking great.

I ALSO found what I THINK is a first run 2 channel Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier at the instrument store.......

Does anyone know how rare those are and how amazing they are....? Its only like 1,500$.......

Hey man its been a while. Still up for some FPS action on Steam haha? :D

But yeah the Spider amps are a great starter amp. Mainly because you can get that average metal tone out of it, and it has all the effects pedals built right into it. With hundreds of presets to tweak.

Its ALSO a good thing, because you learn that it sucks ass, and learn very quickly that basically everything has better tone haha.

i agree. my dad has a spider 2. they try too hard to make their amps fit dumb needs in an amp. the tone is that of ur average active pickup. no bass. at least this one has barely any

Nononononononono stop right there.

Dont ever buy another Spider amp again unless its the Spider Valve mk 2 amp.

Basically everything is better than a Spider amp. I have a Spider 3 as well.

I have down loaded the software onto the computer. That is where i am at. Has anyone used the shortboard or any pedal sucessfully to control the recording function with ones Foot?   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Judas Deth from Friday, January 08, 2010 4:55:35 PM) Edited at: Thursday, January 14, 2010 2:22:08 PM

I need an opinion here.
Peavey has just released a 50 watt , single 12 combo of the 6505. they seem to be going for around 6 bills. Does anyone think that is a good price?

Wah pedals can be a curse or a blessing, but if it is opening up new avenues to your playing, by all means wail away !
The JB is a good choice , versatile pickup for all styles of music.

I have not been on in a really long time so i just felt i should share a few things that i have accquired. I got an SD JB pickup put in the bridge position on my Ibanez Jumpstart beginner guitar. I also got the FBV shortboard footswitch for my Spider 3. everything is sounding pretty good and i'm really loving the expression Wah pedal that is included on the footswitch. It is my first time using/ owning a wah pedal and it has really opened new doors for my playing.

Joe
Both amps are Rectifier amps, meaning that they use a recitifier tube to control voltage going into the power amp tubes. This gives the tone a somewhat "spongy"  sound.Which is a sought after tone., it gives a type of natural compression and doesn`t allow the tubes to quite peak as they would if being run by a "Silicon Diode"  aka a capacitor, to control the voltage .
The Silicon Diode will give a sharper tone to the tubes as it`s power reserve is much higher and will not peak like a rectifier will.well, atleast within reasonable limits anyway.
The Road King gives you a choice between the Rectifier or the Silicon diode, the Dual or Triple Rectifier`s don`t. So  it depends on what you`re looking for tone wise....Thick and Spongy (Rectifier) or Sharp and slightly more articulate (Silicon Diode)
Note worthy is that most of the influential recordings were used using a "Rectifier" type of amp whether it be an old Marshall, Mesa Boogie or an old Fender.

The SD's I mentioned having in my Les Paul were DiMarzio Super Distortions, thought I should clarify after re reading that...

I like the Duncan Distortion, The Dimebucker, and the Bare Knuckles are cool as hell if you have the budget.  The Jackson J90C is a good one (if you can find one), and as for DiMarzio, I haven't used them in over 20 years. I has SD's in my 76 Les Paul, and my Dad has X2N's in his, but I had a hell of a time getting any mids out of the SD's and the X2N's weren't too bad but I could hardly play his set up anyway....

What are some passive pickups (Seymour D's, DiMarzio)
That you like
I like Metal . I need a hot Pickup. Want wide frequency range for a Rock / Metal Pickup?
