Thanks, gang! I am very excited about this new album and I know MM is as well. From what I have been told, metallark can really blow so I would anticipate one hell of an album!!!!!!!! Look for a much better quality on this one, not to mention improved talent!!! HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can assure you all that this one will far surpass Raw Steel! And as for you, Guido.....I think MM is handling the tuba parts but, if you play the washboard or the "jug", you are in!!!! HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I really like the song listing for the new CD guys! Should be a most worthwhile metal experience for my ears! Any chance I can get a copy of the full CD along with the new one? |

Deep Freeze, you are not alone my friend!!
Growing up I was pretty good in sports. I lived and breathed baseball and football. For years that's all I did, sun up to sun down. In my case, it was too difficult to balance sports and the dedication necessary to excel against my love for concerts, partying and the girls!! Damn them all!!
I wound up joining the Marines and eventually got married and all the stuff that goes along with it. I still kick myself in the ass for not (at least trying to) follow my dreams.
Oh well, you found an outlet here and I'm glad you and the rest of the guys are sharing that with us. For me, I still play softball and through my daughter's activities I still feel a part of a team!! Touch of Evil

Exciter

That's exactly right, guido! I have been reviewing the live recordings for help. I have a "bootleg" of their latest show and I am using that for Hammer and the Anvil, although I do not intend to do it exactly the way they are doing it. I believe we are going to do Prophecy. We may also do Alone, but I am not sure. Prophecy is very easy for me. We do want to have at least one new song on the CD. We will be doing Judas Rising and I plan to do my part the same way as you hear it on RIE. Very simple, no high notes.
I believe that we have chosen songs that fit my limitations. We are considering Exciter but, again, I will do it like they did on RIE. All lower register. Demonizer is not so much a problem due to high notes, it is the screaming style. My throat is raw right now. Besides, I do NOT want to "throw a rod".....HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is also what Priest currently does with a lot of high notes. Uses guitar instead of vocals to hit the high notes.
Ever, by chance, hear David Grisman & Sons do "Hot for Teacher?" It is on an album called "Strummin' with the Devil." Really interesting album but that song, in particular, has no vocals at all. Grisman is, without question, one of the greatest mandolin players ever. As I play that particular instrument, I was interested to hear how he would do it. In short, he has a fiddle essentially mimic all DLR's vocals. Worked very well. I would be thinking along the same lines.
I'd also suggest what I mentioned before. Look at what Priest is CURRENTLY doing in terms of song selection as well as how they do it. They are taking their own limitations into account now and are tuning down and using other methods to compensate in their songs. Thus, my first suggestion of including some Nostra tunes. IMO, most if not all were written with knowledge of the Metal God's vocal register NOW in mind. Trying to hit the super highs of the 70s? You'd throw a vocal rod. |

That's right, MM! We did. And thank you, Val. I appreciate that you thought it out and gave a suggestion. However, I am talking about the entire song, not the high parts. I have no intention of trying to do those anyway! The song itself is just very hard on my voice. It is actually perfect for Rob. Typical of his vocal style but it is very hard on me. I spent an enormous amount of time on it today and it started sounding pretty good once I stopped trying to be Rob and started trying to just sing the song. I think it will turn out OK.
Thanks again, Val! Glad to know someone is out there and showing some interest!!!!!! Edited at: Thursday, October 23, 2008 4:44:45 PM |

(LAS VEGAS, NV-NEW YORK) The surviving members of the rock group Faithful Defenders announced today that the group will meet in the studio to begin the long awaited recording of their second album on November 17th of this year. Rumors of the new album have been circulating around the official Judas Priest website that the band were ready to begin work on the follow-up album to the hugely successful debut recording, Raw Steel.
When reached at his home in Las Vegas, vocalist Mike Deep Freeze Berentsen confirmed the report saying, " It's true. I am flying to New York next month to get working on the album. I can tell you we are very excited about this. It has been a long time coming". More rumors regarding the material for this album were confirmed by guitarist and co-founder Phil MetalMeltdown Ewing when called at his New York office. "Yes, it is true. Mike is heading out to the highway and we are getting down to business in November," he quipped.
Fans across the US and in countries such as Canada and the UK have all been demanding a new release from the band. "This is freakin awesome," said one unidentified fan. The music world is abuzz with excitement and it is widely anticipated that the new effort will far surpass Raw Steel both in popularity and distribution. It was also said that there will be more original material on this album. Raw Steel was distributed in the US, Canada, Japan, the UK and South America. It was also broadcast on Argentinian radio in 2006. |

I have a big day planned for the Project II today! I plan to write that new song which, as directed by MM, will be an ode to the great Judas Priest. I will also work hard on Forever Young, trying to get my "chops" down in preparation for my trip to NY. I thought about the Project last night and something occurred to me. Many of you were not around when the original Project was done. I have had many questions about this thread and what this all means. Therefore, I shall post the following information for those of you that still are not clear:
In March of 2006, the Princess and I flew to New York and met Metal Meltdown. We invited anyone here on the Board that wanted to be a part of it to join us. Maiden/Priest6666 came up from PA and we were joined by two other very talented musicians, Jim Gleason and Mick Fallacaro. Together, we all produced the Project CD entitled "Raw Steel". It contains ten Judas Priest songs spanning their early years right up to AoR.
After the tremendous success of this album, there was the inevitable chatter about doing another one. Unfortunately, real life has kept MM and I from doing such a CD. Most of you are aware of the accident I suffered not long after we released the album and the ensuing surgery which has kept me unable to do much and MM's personal problems. Suffice it to say that life and its difficulties conspired against us and the new Project was shelved.
Today is a new day, my friends. While I am still in considerable pain, those of us involved with this Project have decided it means too much to the membership to allow anything to stand in the way! With much coaxing from the Princess, I have decided to brave the long flight and go to NY to record the new album. It is our desire to add some original music to this effort. We also plan to record enough material to be able to offer a THIRD album sometime down the line without the need for me to return.
Once again, we ask for your help. What songs would you like to hear? Those members that were present for the first CD will recall the participation we enjoyed and the great fun we had getting suggestions from all of you. Additionally, the offer to join us remains. Any of you that can play an instrument or sing are very welcome to be a part of this CD. It is, afterall, for all of us. We will be recording in December of this year in Buffalo, NY.
Please, please take a moment to ponder what I have written. Please join us in some way. Please be a part of our Tribute to this great Band.

The priest sounding one....I was thinking about making it a Priest themed song. Il prete, the full version, didnt work out when I messed with it a few months back so I tossed it. So I think it would be appropriate to have a Priest dedicated original......
The idea I have for the verse melody would be like the melody line in Steeler..... "Waiting like Jackels to sneak up and trick you" Something along that melody line which is not much of a melody line but this is a straight forward metal tune. Lotsa growling.... Outstanding! Can't wait.
Perhaps one that wouldn't come readily to mind: "Heart of a Lion." Priest tune that I can't believe they never released.
Again...more to come. I have heard "Raw Steel" countless times now and think I have a pretty good understanding of everyone's talents. When I mentioned Nostra, I see Prophecy and Revalations, perhaps even Persecution. Nice "tip of the hat" to the band as well. With no keyboard, others would be a bit more diffucult.
With this in mind, as I listen to Priest, I now listen with "project 2" in mind.... [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by METAL MELTDOWN from Sunday, October 12, 2008 10:01:07 AM) | | METAL MELTDOWN wrote: | | Demonizer is a MUST do. Sure, Victim would be great but you said it...register. Gotta keep limits in mind.
This said, I would advocate following Rob in the current setlist. Tune down a bit. You hit a lot of my suggestions with this post. Nostra songs. Great. Go low. I think that Nostra songs would be great! Do-able as well. "Some Heads are Gonna Roll" - not that bad. "Demonizer" only hits high at the end. "Night Comes Down" - easy(?) / powerful / beautiful tune. Yeah, I am in a "Defenders" mood.
More to come.... | | Deep Freeze wrote: | | GREAT news!! I am somewhat disappointed in the lack of suggestions from the rest of the membership. Maybe this is just not as big of a deal as the first time we did it? Maybe too many of the "regular" members have moved on or are just apathetic to it all now That is very disheartening, my friends. This project, as with the one before, is meant to get the membershp involved. To be part of it. It is a way that we can come together, as a group, and share in the music of this most beloved Band. I want to be the first to remind you all that this is open to ANY member that wants to participate, and that includes being part of the band!! If you sing or play an instrument, PLEASE tell us! You are welcome to join us in New York.
Having said this, I will now publish my current song choices. These are all tunes I want to get recorded this time:
Killing Machine
Jawbreaker
Eat me Alive
Judas Rising
Hammer and the Anvil
Touch of Evil
One Shot at Glory
Wheels of Fire
Hellrider
Ram it Down
Diamonds and Rust
Hot Rockin
I'm a Rocker
I am Nostradamus

If you listen to our version of Tyrant, you will find that is about as high as I can sing with going terribly wrong...HA!!!!!!!!!!! Most of the songs we have done or are planning to do are all in the lower register or at least "tuned down".
I am grateful for all your suggestions! Please keep them coming. We have not made any final decisions yet but we need to start firming up the list so MM can get started. You would not believe how long it takes to do this! |

Hi Freeze,
You never did tell me if you have done, or plan to do, "Island of Domination" ...?
That's a fun one to do. "There's a man with a needle who's pleading to get at my face..."
... what? Too cool...
Plus, there's the throaty growls in there. So, any plans? |

Better By You, Better Than Me...how's that for starters DF??...I don't know what the parameters are either, so I didn't want to mention Bullet Train, although the song really does kick ass (imho)... You're quite welcome and quite right! I love Steeler. Actually, Steeler was a "bonus track". It was not on the original album at time of release but we re-released with it after MM did some work on it. Anyway, I think Tyrant is my favorite..or maybe Worth Fighting For. Hard to pick.....HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

With pleasure, my friend. I will try to be brief.
In 2005, MM and I decided to record a Priest tribute album. I sing and he is an incredible guitarist. We invited anyone from this site that was interested to join us. We had the membership suggest songs here on this Thread. In spring 2006, the Princess and I flew to NY and met MM and a young man here called maiden/priest6666 (Eric). Along with two others, we recorded an album called Raw Steel. It was a great success. And it was an awesome experience!!!
We are currently planning a second album. I will be flying to NY in December. We are asking for song suggestions. Here is a link to some of our songs;

GREAT news!!
