Hey everyone, here's just a crappy little video of me playing some riffs I wrote a little while ago.

Tell me what you think. I can handle it haha.

Jazz in the neck position is stock, so you'd have to swap that out, and that would add another $75 to the extra grand you are paying for binding, an OFR, and ebony.

The Ebony fret board. No Jazz pickups for me. Original Floyd.

The KE5 and KE3 are alder bodied as well, and all three models also come with the Duncan JB and Jazz pickups.

Once I find a reputable luthier, I will inquire of this process. Can`t say I`m familiar with it. PLEK, accronym for something? I guess my lack of knowledge on this one is from using an old school guy for so long, he did everything the hard way, micrometer and crown files!!! But damn he did good work !!

If at all possible, look into the PLEK process. It evalutates the fret condition with a laser under string tension and is rumored to be absolutely phenomenal.

The only difference in construction of the KE2 and KE5 is the binding and fingerboard wood, so that is just a matter of preference. Personally I have really been more into bolt ons lately, so I would go for the KE3 myself. If buget was no issue or someone was giving it to me, I would gladly accept a KE2, though. The JS30KE does absolutely nothing for me, a Kelly  should never have dot inlays...   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Bazooka Joe from Sunday, October 18, 2009 11:28:24 PM)

I'm swaying more towards the USA one. Anyone care to put more info in? I'm just curious. Not buying.

It may be time for a pro set up. Might need a truss rod adjustment and a fret level and polish by now, so I would consider having it done....

Open question here. I have been adjusting my Jackson for lower action and have the strings at 2.5mm between the 12th and 13th frets. With the Jumbo frets that Jackson uses this puts them right on the deck with just a hint of buzz. This still seems high to me and is driving me crazy. I`m thinking that with the height of these frets, maybe I should just get used to it. OR... should I look into a fret leveling job and bring them down a bit??? been checking prices and wow is that pricey. The local shop that has done lot`s of work in the past for me, the owner retired and closed up. So now this has forced me to look elsewhere.
So should I just get used to it? Or look into getting the work done?

I have never had the chance to play a Hamer, but have been looking for an explorer with a Floyd, and am keeping an eye out for one because they are one of the few that produce one.

The GT model with it`s "SG" neck is amazing and the slickest application for a hybrid blend I`ve ever laid my hands on. Damn I wished I knew someone that was selling one of those!!!!!

Oops. MY misspelling. I meant "not a standard A6" nor the Hamer GT. Wasn't trying to argue "standard issue" A7 by any means. Only that it is NOT the Phantom GT Glenn (notice he spelled it wrong in the eBay ad?) plays in Freewheel.

As you know, I am looking right AT the one he does play!

Sorry, there's a misspelling (A7)!!
Not "& control knobs"!! "6 control knob"

I think he want to make it more interesting for the buyers!!
It's the third A7 on ebay I know. Want to have one!! Dammit!!

Thanks for all the info, Phantom!!

Although it still doesn't make up for the fact that the seller is lying (or maybe naive...you never know) about which Phantom model Glenn was using in the Freewheel Burning video.

There are three versions of the A7.
The first version without the synth PickUp n a 3-over-3 headstock.
the second version without the synth PickUp n a 6-in-line headstock
and
the third version with the synth PickUp n the 6-in-line headstock.

[Phantom A6] Thursday, October 15, 2009 11:13:46 PM
Yep , it's a Hamer Phantom A7.
Four PickUps!! One single coil, one Triblebucker, but you can split the
Triblebucker in one Humbucker n one single coil. And theres the Roland Guitar synth PickUp. One 5-way PickUp selector n & control knobs.
You can find a lot of pics in my albums on my MySpace page.

In the "Freewheel burning" vid Glenn's playing a Hamer Phantom A6!!
One Hamer "Slammer" Humbucker n one volume knob!!

His Hamer Phantom GT is a special A6 version. With a "SG" neck,
two EMG 81 active humbuckers, one volume knog n one 2-way
PickUp selector. Glenn n K.K. prefer the 2-way PickUp selectors!!

[Vaillant 3.0] Thursday, October 15, 2009 10:53:14 PM
Yup. I saw the little white lie he made in the description. HOWEVER!! There's no denying that Glenn did play a Hamer Phantom A7 model at one point in his career. With Roland Synths and everything, although more or less customized differently compared to the one the seller has. Had the guy said that Glenn played this model during the Turbo tour, then he would be more precise, although it still wouldn't get him too many bidders since the Turbo album isn't the most popular of Judas Priest's albums. Plus, the Phantom he's selling is in used condition, which may also be the reason why he's selling it at a low price...and you know how rare those Hamer Phantoms are in the market today.

I saw it. Guy doesn't know what he is talking about. It is NOT the guitar Glenn plays in the vid or in real life as any picture would show. That is an A7. Glenn played his trademark Hamer PhantomGT. Look at the number of pickups. Three on that one for sale...two on Glenn's. Same goes for the knobs. Three on the A7, one on the GT. Even IN the video.

THAT is why his price is going so low....most know better. Freewheel Burnin' screen capture:

Although you should really set the guitar where it is most comfortable for you, the most common starting point is about where it is when you play sitting. I personally have never liked the can pick your teeth with the trem arm height thing, but I will say it does vary by body style. The radical shapes hang lower than the more traditional for me.

Keep an eye on those strap buttons for a week or two, you never know what may happen over the long run, then check it once a month or so.. Gravity is a bitch, so show it a little respect in this matter....
[Vaillant 3.0] Sunday, October 11, 2009 3:37:55 PM
Hey, SBD. Sorry it took a while. I placed the strap buttons last night and tested them today. I used that one method of putting in toothpicks, since it's budget-friendly (heheh). Except that instead of putting in toothpicks, I used Q-tips . The Q- tip sticks were made of wood, and were slightly thicker in diameter than a toothpick.

I cut off the cotton heads with scissors, and cut the remaining stick to the match the height of the strap hole. I put two pieces in each hole, then screwed in the nails and buttons with a screwdriver. Then I put on the guitar strap, but didn't test it then because it was late. This morning I put the guitar strap (with guitar) around me and let it hang from my shoulders for a bit to see if the buttons will hold, then proceeded to play a couple of pieces of JP tunes (and even got dressed for the occasion!). The result:
SUCCESS!!! Thanks again for the advice, gents!!!!

Before (the day I got it from my nephew this Jan.):

...and after!! You can see the small, silver strap button...the strap itself is black.

Now...my next question: Is there a proper way to stand while playing? How about the position of the guitar as you play it while standing?   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by SDBinNY from Sunday, October 11, 2009 8:54:43 AM)

SDB is right on the money with the toothpicks or dowel idea. I suggest using some stuff called "Gorilla Glue" to do te gluing with. It is an expanding type of  glue but what ever oozes out of the hole is easily trimmed with a razor.Just be careful with the Gorilla Glue, it loves to get onto your skin. It poses no problem just an annoyance.

That depends on how much material is missing. If the original ones just pulled out, I have heard of people gluing tooth picks in the holes around the outside edge, then installing the new strap buttons, but I have my doubts as to the long term viability.

I would suggest you find a craft or hardware store and pick up a piece of dowel rod slightly larger than the diameter of the hole. Drill out the stripped holes to the same size as the dowel (don't go any deeper than the current hole), then glue the dowels in place. Let the glue dry for 24 hours, then redrill the size hole needed for the new strap buttons.

Good evening, guitarists of the Noticeboard. I seek your advice on something. It may be a bit trivial, but bear with me.

My guitar is a Squier, and I love it to death and play it as much as I can. I've been meaning to put on a guitar strap, since my older nephew (the previous owner of said guitar) took it off. I went to the music shop nearby a few days ago and bought the screws and bolts and everything. The problem is that the holes where the screws are supposed to go are too big. It kinda looks as though he pulled them off, or that something's missing. What should I do? Should I partially cover those holes with glue or something and then put in the screws, or what? Any advice is appreciated.
