K.K. DOWNING: My Golf Course Was Never Reason For Not Doing Latest Tour With JUDAS PRIEST - July 3, 2011
Former JUDAS PRIEST guitarist Kenneth "K.K." Downing has shot down as "inaccurate" reports that he left the band because chose to concentrate on running his Astbury Hall 18-hole championship golf course in Shropshire, England.
In a recent interview with Express & Star, JUDAS PRIEST bassist Ian Hill stated about Downing's departure from the group, "I think Ken had just had enough. He'd got a lot on his plate with his golf course and I think he couldn't spend the time away. This tour's going to be, by the time it's wrapped up, the best part of two years. It's a long, long time to be away from things and I just think Ken couldn't handle the time away."
In response to Hill's comments and the subsequent press reports which insinuated that Downing "chose golf over PRIEST," the guitarist has released the following statement via his official web site:
"The word 'think' depicts uncertainty; therefore it lends itself to supposition.
"I love Ian as a brother and nothing will ever change that, but his take on the situation in this instance is inaccurate, and the people from the press had no license to jump in and take what they thought was a cheap scoop out of what Ian thought the situation was.
"To concentrate on my golf course is not, and was never, the reason for not doing the latest tour with JUDAS PRIEST. I have had in place since last September the world's leading golf-management company known asTroon Golf. Troon manages approximately 200 facilities world-wide; please see the facility directory at Troongolf.eu.
"The course has been open and running smoothly since last September when it hosted a great charity event for the Lords Taverner's in aid of underprivileged children.
"Anyone that has ever known me will testify that I have always been dedicated to JUDAS PRIEST and the fans, and nothing has ever stopped me from touring until now.
"I have been busy going to concerts, metal exhibitions, trying to help younger bands to get off the ground, and have plans to travel on business to other countries including Finland, Spain, and the U.S. this summer.
"Although I am not there, I wish for the name JUDAS PRIEST to forever be triumphant.
"I have no doubt the 'Epitaph' tour is sensational. I therefore urge you all again not to miss out this one, so please give your best support one more time to the mighty PRIEST."
"Believe it, or believe it not!": The latest comments from the band - Metal Hammer, July 2011:
(on KK's announcement)
IAN -"Disagreements between members of the band? That never happened before with us - ha! To Be honest, when you're in a band as long as we've been this sort of thing always happens. In the past, though, we've always got over such issues."
ROB -"We had no clue beforehand that KK felt this way. I recall exactly how I felt when he broke the news. It was as if the floor had opened & swallowed me. My mind was going off like a box of fireworks."
IAN -"We'd all agreed this was the way it should be (the last tour). But (it was) his voice that was loudest. I wouldn't say he was behind the plan, but he seemed keener than the rest of us."
GLENN - "I think part of the problem was that he'd had a few injury problems, with his wrist in particular. But it was still something that none of us expected."
ROB - "None of us understood why he was doing this. We were all stunned. I remember lying awake that night, wondering what had happened, why things were going so wrong. But I think Glenn, Ian & I all felt that it would blow over, KK would change his mind & we'd get back on track."
IAN - "That's the reason we never announced this in the first place. We all went round to see him, all phoned him & did our best to persuade him to come back."
GLENN - "We wanted to give him as much time as we could. In the end we came close to messing everything up, because we gave him too much time. There was never the slightest indication from KK that he might come back, but we held on to the notion that he must return. It couldn't all end like this."
ROB - "My initial reaction was that it was over for Priest. It surely was the end, as we couldn't go on without KK. But then it dawned on me that this band is a lot bigger than any one member; we had to carry on."
GLENN -"We had a meeting & a choice to make. Either we stopped Judas Priest right now, or we looked for a new guitarist. Thankfully, all of us agreed that we owed it to ourselves & the fans to carry on."
(& on KK returning)
IAN -"He's not coming back. I've talked to him a lot recently & I know he has no interest in doing anything in music again. This won't come up. It's over."
GLENN -"The door will never be shut on him. If KK says he's up for a reunion, then we'll never dismiss it."
ROB - "I would welcome him with open arms. I know it would be difficult for Richie, but... when I returned [in 2003], Ripper graciously handed me the microphone & bowed out."

This is what I (personally) needed to read, particularly Ian's & Glenn's comments. Thought about picking up the mag from the shelf the other day. Didn't do it. Then again, some of the content online doesn't always make it to the shelf (space issues). Thanks for posting~

Aww... Suzie!! Sometimes you're so EVIL!!
But I luv ya for it!!
It was definately Curbishly's Idea...................Bastard, living in the early seventies. I like Nos, but it's not my favorite, or even close. But, it's history now. Onward and upward, and perhaps Curbishly will be hit by a London bendy bus.

Yes I do have knowledge that Nostradamus was indeed K.K.'s idea ect...do you really think I fucking meant Rob,Glenn,Ian and Scott were not a part of it at all? Get real "Auntie". For your information the album "was" K.K.'s idea, motivations and arrangements, that doesn't mean Rob,Glenn,Ian and Scott were not a part of it.
Let me clear it up for you since you seem to have a hard time understanding things in general so let me see if I can strip my complicated post down into something Auntie B can even understand...The album has been a long time idea of all of thiers, but Nostradamus was K.K.'s "baby" and yes "THE MAJORITY" of it was his ideas, fruitations and arrangements. Everybody else assumed Rob and Glenn were a part of it but you,so I hope somehow you can possibly understand it,if not you can check back into kindergarden. How do i know this? I'm surely not going to tell you because you irritate me #1 and # 2......you still irritate me.

I'd love very much to see him play in Priest one last time.
I hate to be all nicey-nice about it and refuse to respect his decision to retire, to hell with that, respect is for the elderly.
I just have to accept the fucking new guy and mercilessly compare the two. A new hobby.

KK is the main reason why I love Judas Priest. He has been an inspiration for me, he has been incredibly kind to me, and truely is the heart and soul of the band. It saddens me immensly that he has resigned from the band. But I respect his decision and I know that he has a strong will and will do what he believes is best. :( But it breaks my heart. It absolutely breaks it. Rob is the only reason for me now in regards to Judas Priest. But really I just miss KK and don't know, I might have to take a vacation away from Priest until this all calms down a little. I wish KK all the happiness in the world and I will always be loyal to him, he means too much to me to do otherwise.

Halford: "I think what really is important is that we still have this desire, this passion — it doesn't diminish in nearly 40 years; we still have this tremendous love for what we do in heavymetal music and the fans that have supported us are a constant inspiration. And I think we all agree that as much as we were very happy with the way [the JUDAS PRIEST concept album] 'Nostradamus' came out — that was a great moment for us, because we had been waiting forever to make this concept album — that's not the end with 'Nostradamus'. We have other ideas that we wanna explore later. But wanted to make, at least, as Glenn said, one more great metal album that really has all the great traditions and attributes of PRIEST in the music, and we think we've got that down, pretty much."

I'm trying not to beet a dead horse. But I think the following provides more clarity / discussion with regard to the concept album "Nostradamus" (exerpt from the Blabbermouth interview):
On the musical and lyrical direction of JUDAS PRIEST's new material:
Tipton: "It's quite a mixed bag. Really, there's more sentiment on this album. In a way, I suppose, it's also our farewell album, although it might not be our last one. There are some anthems on there, which pay tribute to our fans; it's our fans of saying thank you and the lyrics relate to that, it's saying thank you to the fans for all the years."

Yes, it seems that this was his plan for a very long time. I had never read the interview that you mentioned about him retiring at 60, but I did know that Astbury has always been his dream to finish. It looks as if it is almost finished now and his dream has finally been realized. I wish him all the best life has to offer! I hope we are all this lucky in life, to fulfill our dreams that we have worked all our lives for!
Ok, so if I ever win the lotto, we shall asault the greens of Astbury! lol Should be a sad sight.
Nupe, great interview. Seems to me KK did have his mind made up long ago. He's retired and I wish him the best of luck in his life and his estate. He always had this in mind.
In speaking at a court against Sarah Lissimore who sued him for intrest in his estate, his answer was:
“Everything I do and every penny I have goes towards the estate, it is my passion, my pension, and my life.”
Pension. He said it then, and he meant it now.

Thanks for this Nupe - I always enjoy reading what Rob has to say, he is so talkative you always get plenty of info LOL!
On K.K. Downing's statement that his departure from JUDAS PRIEST was brought on in part by "an ongoing breakdown in [the] working relationship between [him], elements of the band, and the band's management":
Halford: "Well, I'm sure you've been around a lot of bands in your life as a journalist and I'm sure you've heard a lot of stories about the creative differences that happen in a group, and you always overcome them. It's not easy being in a band; it's a very difficult, temperamental machine, because you're dealing with very emotional people, very talented people, and so you have your ups and your downs. I think that in the light of all of the excitement and the confusion over the last few weeks, a lot of the things have been kind of distorted out of the fact. I don't really know why K.K. said what he said in his press release. I think maybe K.K. himself was feeling very emotional and very kind of… I don't know… maybe retrospective about all of the things that have been going on in PRIEST for the last few years. . . If you go onto his web site today, he put up a new press release and he says, you know, he's had a great time and he's not feeling bitter, he's not feeling in any other way than feeling just very satisfied and complete that he's done all the things that he wants to do. And I think that's great. I think K.K.'s really answered a lot of questions for a lot of people. But I think it was unfair to single out the bandmembers and I think it was unfair to single out management as the reason why he left, because it was more than that. And so there you go. We're all separate, individual people that all have lives to live and all have different needs and choices to be made, and this is the one that K.K.'s gone with. And we love him dearly; he'll always be in the spirit of JUDAS PRIEST. We wish things were different, but they're not, so we have to look forward and be positive and be excited about the shows that we're gonna do and a great new guitar player, Richie. JUDAS PRIEST is not just one person, JUDAS PRIEST is the whole experience, and we've always felt that way. Even when I was away from the band, JUDAS PRIEST carried on. So this is what we're gonna do — we're gonna be strong and we're gonna put on some powerful shows and we're gonna celebrate and have some great metal experiences together again."
On why K.K. couldn't wait until after the "Epitaph" tour to leave the band:
Halford: "It's a great question. I can't answer it. You have to get in touch with K.K. and ask him that question, 'cause I can't answer it. I think we've tried to be as honest and as straightforward as we can be on both sides of the discussion, and it is very emotional. I mean, you could just as easily [have asked] that same question — which you may have done — when I was away from the band, and Ripper, my good friend Ripper, was holding the mic for me. You just have to carry on. I think more than anything, it's just kind of difficult, 'cause it's a farewell tour. Why is it happening now? Well, you've got no control over life, have you? [Laughs] You can't control life and these things happen. So you just have to accept them and see what your options are. So that's the way it is. Of course, it will never be the same without K.K., like I'm sure a lot of people said it was never the same without me. But you can't just grind to a halt, you can't just stop everything — that would be ridiculous. We have obligations to our fans and to promoters and to everybody else, and to our record company, and we wanna fulfill them and be professional and do the right thing, which is what I think we are doing."
On how he feels personally about K.K.'s departure from the band:
Halford: "I just feel very sad that this whole episode has taken place at the time that it has. I think that we're all dealing with it differently. I love Ken like a brother; we've been in each other's lives for over 40 years. And we're all still good friends; that's the important thing. It doesn't matter about the breakdown in the communication or the creative differences; that's just part of being in a band. The friendship and the caring for each other, that doesn't go away. It should never go away. Because we've been through too much together and you can't let differences of opinion over different incidents and different moments, you can't let that affect your long-term-standing relationship, business-wise and personal-wise, you can't let that get destroyed; that would be a terrible thing to do. So you just respect each other, you respect each other's choices and you respect each other's decisions. And I'm sure that at some point K.K. will probably want to be a little bit more open about his reasons for departing PRIEST; that's entirely up to K.K. We've made it clear that we're not speaking for K.K.; we can only speak for ourselves and what we need to do. So there you go — that's about as much as we can really offer to the press and to our fans at this point."

I'm all for the mini putt putt course!!! He could blast Priest tunes through the speakers. Hell, I'd never leave!
I'm ready for the Margaritas! and if I ever win the lotto, (which I don't play) I'm going to Astbury to play a round of golf and wave about 10 pairs to play through since it should take me most of the day! I can actually do drives fairly decent but the little things after that like putting 20 feet, just kill me.
Do you think he would consider a mini putt putt course? Whomever putts the ball on hole 18 into the peacock nest wins a free round? LOL We could log some serious time there. lol Then go to the clubhouse and champagne toast a hole in one on the putt putt course. HA!!

Ian Hill's comments about KK and the Epitaph tour:
JUDAS PRIEST bassist Ian Hill recently spoke to Germany's Metal Hammer magazine about the departure of the band's founding member Kenneth "K.K." Downing and the group's latest addition, 31-year-old British guitarist Richie Faulkner (LAUREN HARRIS, DIRTY DEEDS).
On Richie Faulkner:
"He was recommended to us by a mutual friend.
"For those fans who are concerned that we will no longer sound like PRIEST [without K.K.], you can put your minds at rest. Richie Faulkner is a fabulous guitarist and the perfect replacement for K.K. Downing. You will miss nothing from the show and the sound."
On K.K. Downing:
"We have done everything in our power to persuade Ken to stay in the band. He no longer had the enthusiasm to keep going."
On the forthcoming "Epitaph" farewell tour:
"We are looking forward to it. We have a great show, a great set list and a very good new guitar player. "
On whether "Epitaph" is really JUDAS PRIEST's final tour:
"I don't think these will be our last-ever performances. But there will be no more two-year tours after this. However, we still have a lot of touring ahead of us, and if anyone asks us — why shouldn't we continue playing?"
A promise for the fans:
"Rob Halford is still able to sing all the songs as before."
JUDAS PRIEST has been focusing on the forthcoming tour — doing press, photos, sorting out stage sets, special effects, and stage clothes etc. In addition, the bandmembers have started music rehearsals this week so are now poised and getting ready to roll. According to a posting on the group's official web site, "everyone is looking forward to travelling round the world again with the PRIEST machine!"
JUDAS PRIEST's "Epitaph" world tour will kick off on June 7 in Tilburg, Holland.
Downing issued a statement last month regarding his departure from the legendary heavy metal group on the eve of its farewell tour. Downing said, "It is with much regret that I will not be with you this summer. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your concerns about my health. Please rest assured that I am OK. There has been an ongoing breakdown in (the) working relationship between myself, elements of the band, and the band's management for some time. Therefore I have decided to step down rather than to tour with negative sentiments as I feel that this would be a deception to you, our cherished fans. However, I would urge you to please support the PRIEST as I have no doubt that it will be a show not to be missed."
Singer Rob Halford told French magazine Rock Hard, "K.K. leaving was his own decision, for the reasons he made public on his web site. . . K.K. has his own life to live and we can't force him to do anything he doesn't want to do."
Regarding Faulkner's addition to JUDAS PRIEST, Halford said, "K.K. can never be replaced; he's unique, and we didn't want any kind of K.K. copycat. Richie Faulkner came to Glenn's [Tipton, guitar] house to jam, and Glenn simply told me he was absolutely brilliant."
Although PRIEST plans to stop touring after this run, the band will continue to record and intends to issue a new studio album in 2012.

Ages ago, KK set in motion his plan for what he wanted to do with his retirment. His resort is open and doing well, he is comming up on 60, which back in the 80s he stated in an interview that if he was lucky enough to play that long he wished to retire at 60, (when I read that at about 17 years old, I thought wow 60, now that's old!) Does not look like his plans ever wavered. Too bad we all don't plan for the future that well.
No sense in wishing for something that will definately not happen. I wish him well in his new life as a retiree with all the time in the world to dedicate to his personal pursuits.
Yeah Becks, when Ian speaks, I always listen because he doesn't do it very often. It's good to get some other sides to this. It sounds like KK just doesn't want to do it anymore and all the guys tried to do everything to get him to stay. I wish everyone saying that KK was forced out would shut the hell up already!!! NO ONE can do anything about this if KK simply doesn't want to do this anymore.

I don't know if KK has been holding them back, but it sure seems like there is nothing that can be done about this situation. KK simply doesn't want to do this anymore. They tried to get him to stay and he doesn't want to. He wasn't forced out. He needs to live his life the way he wants to.
Maybe the album will kick ass and maybe it won't. We won't know until we hear it. I'm sure it won't have the twin axe attack quality that every other album had. That is something that I will really miss. But maybe it will be a kick ass metal album. I agree, it doesn't have to top Sad Wings, British Steel or Painkiller to be a kick ass album!
For me, I'd rather Priest keep going with 4 of the 5 members than for them to just fade away into retirement!!!
How Ian mentioned that K.K. had lost the enthusiasm to keep going makes us wonder if K.K. has been holding the band back from creating another album after Nostradamus? The band are obviously recording a new album due out next year and K.K. lost his enthusiasm?
Wow,if this next album is kick ass with great quality then its a blessing in disguise that K.K. left the band. I know the sound/guitar duo will not be like Downing and Tipton of old,it will not be the old school Judas Priest with K.K.'s signature guitar sound, but at this point in time I don't care in the least,I'm glad they replaced K.K. because I want to see Judas Priest continue without him.
The new album won't top classics like Sad Wing,British Steel or Painkiller but does it really have to top them to be a kick ass quality record? Not in my eyes. Richie Faulkner at this point is the best thing that has happened to Judas Priest since after the release of Angel Of Retribution. Also notice that Rob and Glenn changed the Judas Priest logo back to the normal one, that alone is a sign of good things to come.

Thank you so much Eternal Betrayer!!
I really hope that both sides can sit down and talk and work it out. The Priest fans would like nothing better than to see KK on that stage on the Epitaph tour. Even though I support Priest in their decision to continue and will see the Epitaph tour, I will miss KK dearly and I really hope that something can be done to change his mind.

For some of you that would seem to desire some more details as to why I have
resigned from the band, I can only say that there is nothing more underlying than I
have already put in my initial statement. I would like to reassure you that I am still here for you and I am still the same person with the same feelings and sentiments.
I have been lucky enough to have had a great life and to have fulfilled many goals, one of the most significant being the friendships that I have made with you my fans. Many of you I have met and we have enjoyed some time together, some of you I have just had a beer with and with others I might only have shared a couple of laughs or simply signed my autograph.
Nothing could ever have been more rewarding than to have experienced and enjoyed our special relationship and the things that we have shared together - those being Music, friendship and the love of life itself.

That's just the problem, when people hear the name "Judas Preist", they don't think of Nostradamus, they think of Screaming, Defenders, Painkiller, British Steel, Stained Class, etc... And I agree, management would never want to go out on a limb and risk losing everything, especially money, on a Nostradamus tour.. The costs would be through the roof... And to throw this in there: Even though I only have listened to the record one time all the way through, I'd still go see it. 100% love to the band I grew up with... Anyways, this whole management thig is bullsh!t and I wish KK the best for his future. Getting away from the source of your problems is much better than traveling millions of miles and dealing with their bullsh!t... But still, this finale wont be the same without him... Let's just be glad he stayed around for all these years, through every record, every tour, (every cab that hit him in the fanny!)... KK, you have my respects.. I'm just concentrating on June 24th here in MN for the Motley concert... Is it a bad thing when GnR has released US dates before Judas Priest? In my book, yes.. Disgraceful... (I can't stand Axl..) But that's for a different topic// Please Priest - Release US tour dates!!!

have already put in my initial statement.
Nothing could ever have been more rewarding than to have experienced and enjoyed our special relationship and the things that we have shared together - those being Music, friendship and the love of life itself.

if there ever was a window of opportunity for a Nost tour its long since gone. the only time it might have worked and I dont think it would was right after the release. here they released it then toured BS leaves no opportunity for a nost tour. which is fine by me.
KK wants new things, thats fine. [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by HOT ROCKIN' METAL GODDESS from Tuesday, May 03, 2011 5:34:49 PM)

tasnam1 I agree, that reporter seems dead on accurate to me too, although we don't know the details why K.K. left but it reeks of K.K. wanting to slow the pace down, milk the Nostradamus name and album as long as he could and possibly either have Nostradamus be the last Priest album or write something similar to it,it sure as heck doesn't sound/or seem like K.K. had anything "heavy" up his sleave for the new album and tour,I think he burnt out on it and was holding Rob,Glenn and Ian back from giving us some new material.
And it seems that management wants the band to write something classic for the fans, maybe K.K. thought by doing this the band would be going backwards instead of forwards with Nostradamus setting the bar too high with progressiveness that writting an album like Painkiller or Defenders Of the Faith wouldn't make sense, who knows but from the fans vibes it seems like K.K. has been the downfall of Judas Priest since right after the Angel of retribution tour....who knows, someday we will find out more information.
This news saddened me to be honest. I was actually really looking forward to another Priest album and now the chance of seeing another that is actually "Priest" is gone.
No matter the reason, it will have been for the best . Of that I am certain.
Now I have two hopes left :D
Either 1: Priest find a new album guitarist who brings something new to the band and they go out with a metal masterpiece.
or
2 : KK Downing now writes a Solo album that will be quite interesting to hear.
Hopefully at least something along these lines happens in the future. Edited at: Friday, April 29, 2011 8:18:39 AM

Just stumbled upon an interview with KK from 2007, during the recording of Nostradamus, and thought his answer to one particular question might possibly give some clue to his recent decision to leave.
Q: Thirty plus years into your career is it easier or harder to write songs?
A: "I think the sponge is always being squeezed. When will we run out before we are just duplicating what someone else has done? The answer to that is in the combination of what people have to offer in the band. Five individuals when we come together creates something unique. When we will run out of ideas is a good question. Hopefully not until this record is done! (laughs)"
Well you know I've been thinking about that and actually I take that back. I thought it was a lame idea at first yes but I changed my mind, yeah yeah I can never make up my mind blah blah blah I get it..ect..ect..ect... back to the post...it really wouldn't bother me if they changed the name as long as the name itself was totally kick ass and it fit perfectly.
As for Saxon vs. Maiden, yeah your right because Saxon will always be in Maiden's shadow and Priest's too, they will never be as popular as Maiden and will never sell as many albums or concert tickets, merchandise ect... no matter how good they are now I admit that. And I also have said I think the 1980-1985 Maiden were better than Saxon,I'd vote for Maiden's earlier work over Saxon's.
Back to the post...They aren't going to change the name but perhaps they should to quiet people down a notch about how its not Priest without K.K...ect.... again, yeah as long as the name is good and as long as the album is kick ass it wouldn't matter to me to lay the name Judas Priest to rest.
Well I thought it was a pretty cool idea myself. Ha! And saXXon will always be in Maidens shadow even if they do have 19 measly votes. lmao..... again!!

Actually Jimmy I'm not trying to encourage people to get behind the new line up,I'm challenging them to say "some" of the same things about the band after they hear this next Priest album. And at first I said I wouldn't see them live, but I changed my mind,so yes I'll see them live unless they don't come here.
And I haven't seen Priest since the 1988 Ram It Down tour....they didn't come to Seattle for the Painkiller tour or I would of went, and I missed the 2004 Reunion tour and unfortunately the Angel of Retribution tour as I had other things going on in my life I don't care to discuss beings its a long story but it was never because I didn't agree with what they were doing.....
Except the Nostradamus tour....thats when I bought tickets to the show but I had only heard one song "Calm Before The storm/Nostradamus which still is the only song I like on the entire album,so I gave my tickets to a friend and he saw the show. I was too "butt hurt" to see them because my expectations and hopes for Nostradamus were so high it was an utter letdown and it pissed me off to say the least. I'm still glad I didn't go.
They never toured here for the British Steel reunion tour,so yeah I still haven't seen them since 1988,but it doesn't bother me. So yeah thats the only time I didn't agree with what they are doing.

I don't know this and its just a guess, but I've got the feeling that K.K. had got "bored" with "metal" all together. I think this is why he left the band because Rob and Glenn want a strong metal record and I think K.K. wanted to either have Nostradamus be the last Priest studio LP or wanted to dabble in more experimental material. I think this is the breakdown within the band and the management sided in with Rob and Glenn about creating another strong "metal" album.
Thats my guess and I very well may be way off base here but I'll keep believing this untill I'm proven wrong.

I do agree with your comment about the Tony Martin era Sabs albums, although if you were to say that on certain Sabbath forums, they'd come looking for you.
As for the Ripper era albums, I did enjoy Demolition, but hated Jugulator. Having said that, I haven't listened to either for a very long time.

I am going to the farewell tour to thank Judas Priest for their music, live shows, influence on my life and the inspiration from within. It is a celebration to say goodbye to our heavy metal gods and what they mean to us. Ive seen them over 35 times since 1981, they deliver, are first rate class, total showmanship, and always bring a smile to this fan's face. Ill be there to show my appreciation of my favorite band of all time. Thanks Judas for the great memories and being such a big part of my life, growing up and 30 years later... But thats just it.....I don't care if it's "Judas Priest" or not without K.K. I just don't. Sure "this is shitty" and sure"that is shitty" ...sure "the band is shitty for ending thier career this way"...sure alot of things are "shitty"...ect...but it has to come to a point sooner or later that posting about K.K. leaving will be pointless.
I get it that its just happened ect...but soon it would be like logging onto this forum in 2001 and complaining about Rob not being in the band and how its not "Judas Priest". If you and others wish to do so by then,so be it because I don't have to read it ect...
But I was just saying that not only you but if this bothers anybody for that matter nobody is asking them to stay by Rob and Glenn's side through this, its your choices and up to the individual. And I think with Rob, Glenn and Ian still here this is more "Judas Priest" than that of the Sabbath era with Tony Iommi releasing those unworthy Sabbath albums with Tony Martin.
Alls I'm saying is that nobody is saying your wrong,it is shitty and the band handled this shitty and K.K. leaving is shitty but if it bothers the individual that much then eventually they can leave the forum and stop listening to the band's future plans,ideas,music..ect....
I don't care at all,to me its still Priest. Adrian Smith left Iron Maiden in 1990 and the reason that the albums were lame is because of the "song writting" and it wasn't Janic Ger's fault,it was Steve Harris,Dave Murry and Bruce Dickinson's fault for writting under-par albums. If Rob and Glenn write an under par album then it will suck,if they write a brilliant album it will be awsome but as far as if its Priest or not I really don't care but to each his own.
I still challenge these people to post thier same thoughts after they hear this next Priest album in 2012.
JD, it's not a case of being upset, we're here to discuss the band and voice our opinions. Opinions are not facts, they are totally subjective and can be presented without a person having to justify them.
If I said I think Point of Entry is the best album the band did, sure loads of people are going to say they disagree because everyone has their own take on this for a million different reasons.
For a lot of people, this is the end of the band as far as they're concerned. It may be that the next album turns out to be brilliant, but will it be "Judas Priest"?
During the late 80s, Tony Iommi released a few albums under the Sabbath name but for many people it just wasn't Sabbath anymore. Again, it's just opinions.
If we weren't allowed to voice opinions on these forums, then all we'd be exchanging is facts and figures and everyone would be bored to death very quickly.
For the record, I agree with Alli (check your PMs Alli), the way this has been handled is slightly dubious. It's kind of like being sold a brand new red Ferrari, but when it's delivered, you've been given a brown, second hand Mini.

I think the one thing we all agree on is that this was handled very badly. There is not one person here sticking up for the way that this went down - it was underhanded to sell tickets if they knew at the time they were doing it that KK was out of the band. The other thing we all agree on is that this new line-up is NOT Judas Priest. It can't be. KK and Glenn had a signature sound that no one can copy. But what can we do? Nothing, although I wish we could all get down on our hands and knees and beg KK to stay, I doubt that would make a difference. So we either choose to accept the new line-up or we walk away with our memories. But this is just a shitty way to end a career and I never thought in a million years that the Priest would go out like this.....

They probably will gain new fans with this new guy but I;m with u it won't be the Priest we know. I was just sorta getting used to the farewell tour business but for KK to say he's leaving was like too much to take, specially as he formed the bloody band in the first place!!! I How can it still be Priestt it was bad enough when Bobby left and Ripper came in and yes I m sure he did a good job but it wasn t the Priest I wanted!!! I've also seen every tour with Bobby since 1981 I couldn;t face somebody else singing Bobby's stuff. so I never saw Ripper. I am still going to see em I've got my ticket but I can;t imagine not having KK stood there. As for replacing Glenn it s not just about the guitaring it s about the personality s in the band. I ll tell u this if Bobby leaves again that will be it for me. Also the way the whole thing has been handled is a farce I mean it;s obvious somebody knew something u don't just get a new guitarist like that. I hate to say it but I think they;ve played us all for a set of fools!!! We are going to be seeing a tour which is not what we paid to see a bit underhand if u ask me. What a sad way to end ur career by deceiving the people who put u there in the first place!! If KK s not happy he does right jacking it all in but it;s a sorry state of affairs when the founding member doesn;t feel he can say a proper goodbye to his fans for whatever reason it is a total fiasco, [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by supernaut1968 from Tuesday, April 26, 2011 12:56:06 PM)

JD Diamond, I don't know know what type of fan you're referring to, but at this stage in their career, Priest aren't likely to gain many new ones. I've been a fan of Priest since 1979 and seen all of their tours since 1981 onwards (UK tours that is) and while the band have made some errors along the way, I did stick with them.
This latest issue has been handled badly by all sides and given the amount of experience with the group and their management, you'd think they could have done alot better.
Another point I wanted to address was the popularity of KK, whilst we're all going to have different opinions on this, for me, KK summed up all that was great about the band. Foe me, Glenn would be much easier to replace as his playing style could be replicated by any half decent metal player.
As I've already stated, I've followed the band for over 30 years and the Epitaph tour would have been a fitting end to the group, but even this was somehow messed up.
Oh well....

I care about what you have to say Bud. I supported Priest with Ripper and this is no different to that in my opinion. I completely agree with you, everyone has to decide how they feel about it and arguing is absolutely pointless. If you don't support Priest at this point, why get an account NOW and come on here to just bitch and call everyone names who doesn't agree with you? I hope people will come around and give Priest a chance after they stop being angry about the situation. The new album is going to blow everyone away!!
I don't think people really care what I have to say but I wanted to put one last post out there on this subject.
I went through everything that I posted on this and there is some contradiction. First off, like everyone,
I was upset to hear about K.K.. My initial reaction was retirement. That stems more from fear
of seeing them become a mockery of themselves than from K.K. retiring. I don't want them to retire but I would
rather see that than them embarassing themselves. Secondly I think people that want an explanation deserve one.
Wouldn't an explanation eliminate all these assumptions, rumors, and falsehoods? Then after such I think
people should put all this aside (arguing). K.K. is gone, freakin' deal with it. (however that may be) I also think
that it's funny that a majority of the people that abandoned Priest after Rob left want people to give Richie a chance.
Fuck Ripper but let's supportRichie?
I supported Ripper and I'll support Richie and I'll base how I feel about the (new) Priest after I hear it.
Lastly all the people that are angry that other's don't share their belief. It's a big world, that will never happen.
Whether you are O.K. with this situation or not you don't get to decide how everyone else should feel about it. We feel the
way (we) choose to not how (others) do. It's silly to argue what you believe others should think. Support Priest if you choose,
if not then so be it. There is no right or wrong here.

Oh, and to the person who basically called HRMG a "doofus" . That shows how angry you are that she doesn't agree with you.
I can see you as a kid not getting your way and throwing a "hissy fit" all over the place trying to. I can see that carrying over into
adulthood and you arguing or fighting with anyone who disagrees with you. Open your mind a little and realize you have your
beliefs and others have theirs and they're not always the same.
[Leather Devil] Wednesday, April 27, 2011 6:58:58 AM
@ budred : keep on writing, I 'm reading you !
@ supernaut : yes Glenn could be replaced, as KK will be, and each band member could be (except Rob, in my opinion). Glenn more than KK ? well that's hard to say. The fact is that KK took more and more place in my heart as the years went by. first, because I felt he really technically kept on progressing. Second, because his guitar sound was better to me than Glenn's. but the problem is not here. Music is one thing, human feeling is another. Seeing Priest is like to see friends, or a part of his family, if one miss, the feast is not perfect.
@ Guitardude : yeah ! I still wonder why Priest, and now Glenn, don't go back to a more minimalist gear. Too much drive, and bzzzz in Glenn's sound. That's only because he his this amazing guitar player that he can make his guitar ring correctly. The perfect Gear for both KK and Glenn was for me in 1984 :what a killer sound on stage ! Yes, marshall are the amp for Priest !!

Supernaut1968 I apologize if I've upset you,but for you to say that "Glenn Tipton can easily be replaced by a half dozen decent guitarits" is ludichrist, sure its your opinion but its utterly false. I along with others don't think we "own the place",you are welcome here just as anybody else is,but making a comment/opinion like this is setting yourself up for critisism, how could it not and none of us in here are "fanboys"...
Fanboy= "sombody who thinks the band can do no wrong and everything they do is top notch ect..." None of us are like this in here. I'm just irritated by these fans complaining about the band moving on without K.K.
I challenge these people to listen to this next album from Judas Priest and post the same things they are posting now about how they band should just retire...I challenge them big time, there are going to be alot of people eating thier words this time next year without K.K.....you'll see...just wait and see.....
JD Diamond, why are you taking my comments so personally, they are only my opinions. If you don't agree, that's fine, but don't be so offensive. I used to come on this forum regularly a few years ago but left because certain people used to think they owned the place and just flamed everyone who had a different opinion.
I see things haven't changed much.

I've been a fan since 1981 when I was 11 years old and first saw the Heading Out To the Highway video. They have been my favorite band since,I awaited the release of Screaming For Vengeance in 1982 when I was 12,and bought every album since so yes I'm a long time fan. Supernaut1968.....Judas Priest aren't trying to gain any new fans, they are continueing because of fans like me,spapad,Guido,Hellrider,Becks,HRMG and others.
For fans like you and our beloved own Deep Freeze and others the band has been put to rest and buried. And absolutely untrue that Glenn would be easier to replace, both K.K. and Glenn are extremely hard to replace and in my opinion both have a signature guitar sound that makes Judas Priest. If Glenn left I'd say the same thing here.
You think Glenn Tipton could be replace by "any half decent guitar players? Are you fucking kidding me here supernaut1968? Sorry but that is the most stupid comment I have EVER heard at this forum the 6 years I've been here! Name me one guitar player that could "replicate" Glenn's signature sound? Pssssft please, what a fucking "joke".
K.K.'s signature guitar sound can't be replaced either without sounding altered to some point. That is "fine" with us fans that want the band to continue. This is not fine for you and other fans. So be it. Nobody is forcing you to show up here. Nobody is forcing you to go to the show. Nobody is forcing you to get excited about a new album and nobody is forcing you to buy the new album.
For you supernaut1968 Judas Priest is "dead". So be it. Move on,maybe pay $60.00 bucks a year and go to the Maiden forum. Go to a different metal forum if it bothers you this bad. Quit listening to Judas Priest all together or just listen to the albums that make you happy.
Whatever floats your boat here,I don't give a shit. This new era of Judas Priest is NOT FOR YOU and many others,we get that but us fans of the band right now don't care because this new chapter of Judas Priest is for "US" not you. Again, sorry for the loss of your band, but we are awaiting a new style without K.K. and a new "real" heavy metal album without K.K. so be it.
There is no need for people to keep bitching about K.K. leaving,he is not coming back and Priest isn't quitting, they are moving forwards and K.K. is staying home. So what.
And you say Glenn could be easily replaced by half decent guitar players? Yeah fucking right...pssssft fucking joke, thats the most idiotic statement I've ever heard about Judas Priest period.
And the new album won't have K.K.'s signature guitar style that helped create the sound of Judas Priest....so what?
We are waiting for a "new sound" with Tipton and Faulkner and a new sound that a studio album will sound like,so what? I'd rather have Richie Faulkner on a new "real heavy metal oldschool album" than to have K.K. on another "Nostradamus". I'm willing to bet right now that the majority of fans will like the new album next year better than the nostradamus album with K.K......we'll wait and see.

OK, now that I`ve had the time to calm down, here`s my take and I don`t really give a shit if any part time or un fans want it or not. I have believed in this band since 1980, I was 15 and they helped keep me out of trouble by inspiring me to play my guitar, not be out and into things I shouldn`t be into.
Yes, it sucks that KK has retired, he was my personal favorite, so I will continue to support these guys through what ever the hell they throw at us. Been checking out Faulkner, the guy fucking shreds, no lack of talent here at all.
Now I`m even more curious to see them just to hear how well he gels with Glenn.
My only hope is he doesn`t use those damn Peavey amps he`s been playing, Marshall`s are what forged the Priest sound, and before anybody corrects me, yes , I know Glenn is using Engl these days.
So here`s to the Mighty Priest and to Faulkner, may they forge a new path of old school British Metal!

I get it now. I found what you were talking about. You quoted the wrong post.
I was still angry about K.K. and it kills me how much people rip Demolition so I was using
that as an excuse to vent. I even noticed what I was doing and commented on it. I also see
from your last post that we share many similar beliefs about the current Priest.
I'm sorry man but I'm lost. I read my post and then seareched for your's to see
if it was a response to you. I don't think that was an angry post and I couldn't find your's
so if you interpreted that as angry it was not directed at you. I was saying that I lost interest
in caring about the split but if people felt the need to know I believe Priest does owe an
explanation. I'll buy the album and I'll go to the show and I'll base how I feel on that. If
it sucks(cd) I'll stop buying their music. (I'll steal it.) If the show isn't up to par then I'll have
seen my last Priest concert. It's that simple. I still love them and hold no animosity towards K.K..
I have posted on this 4 or 5 times and I (think) in every one I wished him the best.
Take care man. Peace!

Like you, Before this announcement, I felt the timing was perfect : a last tour while they still can (if they still can, that's what we'll soon check it out) and a retirement from the spotlights. All in dignity. And then, an album for the diehards, another way to say goodbye. why not if they still had good ideas ?
Even if Actually, I don't expect anything from a new studio material, for reasons i explained upper, and because I think they don't have anything more to prove. They did their job, they did it perfectly, they became the Metal Gods, so what else ?
For me, the priority was the tour. And I can't understand why they quarrelled about something else which jeopardized the tour. I can't think that KK left for futile things. KK's life turned around Priest, and he kept the band alive for so many years... I read somewhere on his blog he was in late in working on this new album, because he was enjoying to have some rest, and because, if I remember well, he was thinking same way : priority for the epitaph.
Well, I exepected more cleverness from this band. I didn't expect more frustration from them. I think we fans deserved one more and last effort, one more compromise.
Saying that, I know the show will be ok, it can't be other way, they are professionnal and they are the best. But it won't be the same. The music will be there, but the show won't be entire , in my opinion.

us. Why not provide a thorough explanation. We're all adults here, what do they have to hide? It's
not like they have to fib to the kids to protect someone's feelings. Be straight up. We in turn need to be
adults also. Regardless of the decision it was his/theirs to make. Like it or not we must accept it.

Supernaut1968,
Sorry couldn't disagree more!!!
KK is NOT the most popular member of the band.
And you are making it seem as if the band is going to fail with out him.
Perhaps you forgot Rob leaving???? The band (while not as popular and the material quality was debatable) carried on and toured for years.
Personally (just me not you) I would feel a LOT MORE devastated if Glenn left!!!!
KK best wishes.
Richie = NEW LIFE to our favorite metal band and will bring new METAL RIFFS!!
Well, they continued on without Rob in the '90s and I personally think that Rob is the most popular member of the band. This is a group of 5 people. They will not always agree on everything. It's like a marriage or any other type of relationship - you must compromise. So I'm not buying this idea that everyone agreed on Nostradamus. Let's not forget, Ian Hill is also a founding member of Judas Priest. If Ian wants to continue without KK, then that is his right to do so, along with the other remaining members of the band. Obviously KK was the only one ready to retire which is his decision to make. The rest of the band is carrying on whether some people like it or not. I want a KICK ASS HEAVY METAL album!!! If they can't make one without KK, then I welcome new blood that will help deliver that to all the fans that still believe in Judas Priest. I'm sorry you feel the way that you do. I don't think it's Priest either without KK, just as it wasn't Priest without Rob. But they survived then and they will survive now.

I'd managed to talk quite a few people into seeing Priest one last time, and these are friends who had seen the band numerous times throughout the late 70s and early 80s.
However, when the news about KK broke, not one of them still wanted to go. We'd held back from buying our tickets until the end of this month and looks like we've saved some money.
I don't know where this idea that KK was to blame for Nostrodamus comes from, but whether or not the album was any good, rests on the shoulders of all 5 band members. If any one of them didn't like it, they could have spoken up. Also, it doesn't quite fit with the image of KK (and the content of his own website) to insist that they make an album that isn't "metal" or "Priest".
There's something not quite right about selling the tickets for the farewell tour in these circumstances and if I'd bought tickets, I'd be asking for my money back. JP have a long standing, poor record of dealing with their UK fans especially and the handling of this latest problem doesn't exactly cover anyone in glory.
The band need to be dignified and call an end to this now and walk away.
Sorry guys 'n girls... Everyone who knows me here should know this is just my way of handling the situation with my quirky sense of humor.

And you have every right to think this way. However, your not going to get what you want becasue the rest of the band are not walking away. This year 2011 belongs to the new Judas Priest and another chapter in thier career with Richie Faulkner no matter how long it lasts. They are moving forwards.
There will be no K.K. on tour or no K.K. on the next album For those that are bothered so bad by this then nobody is forcing you to still come to the forum, nobody is expecting you to buy the next record. So they scammed thier fans out of ticket sales knowing K.K. wasn't going to be there....so what? Yes they suck at management skills and they are guilty of this and that.So what?
If it bothers you that bad and everybody else for that matter try and sell the ticket,if not then chalk it up as a loss and forget about Judas Priest all together. The band is moving forwards not for you type of fans and I do respect your opinion, but they are moving forwards for the fans that want to hear them make another album and yes without K.K.
It will still have Rob Halford Glenn Tipton,Ian Hill and Scott Travis on the album and I'm 100% sure this album will thrill the fans that want the band to continue, this era is for us and I'm sorry for your loss of the band.

For those who claim this is not Priest without K.K.....good for you guys,I fully understand. But like spa and HRMG and others have said this is "our favorite band" and we are craving real "metal" music from this band, and with K.K. lingering on to the band any longer would of held them back, forced them all into retirement or put out another "melow" album like Nostradamus was. If this is the only way to get a real british heavy metal album before they compleately retire than "so be it".
We all know that this next album will not be able to top 5 or 6 classic albums, but so what. It could mend in and be better than the rest of Priest's discography. I'd rather have a chance at another Priest studio album without K.K. than nothing at all leaving the contraversial Nostradamus being thier last studio album. I'm glad Rob,Glenn and Ian decided to move forwards with Priest.
Just wait until the new album is out,it may suprise a few people and make them eat thier words. Rob and Glenn aren't stupid, they know the steaks are high and they know they have to deliver a classic normal sounding hard heavy metal album this time around and I really think they are going to stun a few people into keeping the faith a few years longer.

I certainly appreciate the music and the 40 years plus.
I dont think that he or the band owes us anything, and I hope that with the new guy they crank out some great stuff. I will go see them. I do think that if they could have done so they should have anounced the separation prior to selling concert tix. some people will not want to see them after separating. Just read through all the posts on this thread and it's amazing how "entitled" we all feel.
For as much as everyone says they appreciate the 40+ years of music he's given us -
many of us seem to have turned on him just because he made a decision we don't like or understand.
While it saddens me that KK has chosen to retire he doesn't "owe" us anymore than he's told us.
We have no idea what's gone on behind the scenes.
Heck - anyone who's even been in just a local cover band knows there can be a huge amount of turmoil among members - even if you are like family.
At least KK isn't bashing the guys individually or the band as a whole.
This band has ALWAYS presented a professional front ... unlike most of the train wreck bands in the industry.
And he's confirmed that his health is fine.
Would we really want him on the tour if his heart isn't in it? For us OR for him?
How many of us have initially agreed to do something and then had second thoughts ... for whatever reason?
What a bunch of fair weather fans we are ... KK won't be there, so screw the whole band? Makes no sense.
By the way - I don't disagree that this really should have been made public prior to tickets going on sale IF THEY NEW ABOUT IT and IF KK was ok with announcing it at that time. But it shouldn't make that big a difference. This is still a BUSINESS for the guys and their management team ... and we all know that not all business decisions are popular.
Perhaps KK agreed to tour until the band found a suitable replacement? Who knows.
Priest survived even when Rob left (...and here come the anti-Ripper folks' comments...). Priest will survive even without KK.
Priest is a BAND ... it is greater than the sum of its parts.
Before you jump to conclusions - hear what they release.
Seriously - if you're willing to turn your back on the band that has done so much for you over the years, stay home.
You'll leave better seats for those of us who truly appreciate and respect this band for what it's been, what it is, and who each person is who has EVER been a part of the band and for those of us who want to celebrate that.
Take this for what it's worth to you ... the music world is watching us cave in on ourselves. What an embarrassment to the band.

Not all of us are caving. Many of us get it. Do we like it. NO. But we know life goes on. We will still be there for our ALL TIME FAVORITE BAND. The separates the true defenders from the fair weathers. So be it.
