Of course not. And I am sure, like I said, that this will "grow" on me in time and it is hard to judge without the whole experience. Oooooooookaaaaaayyyyyyyyy, HB...... Nighty night........ zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Head banger from Monday, June 16, 2008 1:06:54 PM) | | Head banger wrote: | | now now, take your meds and drift off to sleep. | | Deep Freeze wrote: | | Darth, while I do appreciate you coming to my defense, it is not really necessary. It appears as though I have "pushed a button" or two on young Mr.Ward and I am now free to enjoy his self-destruction. It is good to know that I have friends on this site that are so concerned with my well-being. Thank you. You are a true friend.
There were a couple very legitimate points made by our disadvantaged, would-be adversary. I do consider myself "above" at least a certain percentage of those that frequent this site. I count Mr. Ward among that group. Additionally, while my mother is aware of my fondness for this site, I do not believe she has restricted me from it or expressed concern, as yet. I will have to ask.
Most interestingly, I fail to understand what my socio-political beliefs have to do with pointing out the shortcomings of a troublemaker? Conservative, Liberal, Moderate. There are losers in all groups, as we have witnessed. Apparently, the word liberal is frightening to some. While I have used it to describe people in the past, I have had liberals call me far worse! HA!!!!!!!!! Oh well! I cannot accurately say that is relevant. Of course, "hating" the Band is...apparently.
Finally Darth, you and I and the rest of the regular members should focus on what is really important here, the Band and our friendships as a result of the Band. Cretins come and go. We have no control over that aspect of the site. I will point out in summation that anyone can build up "ignores" against another. It has been done over and over by the past troublemakers, but only ONE person can make you a friend and that is really all that matters.
Now, if you do not mind, I shall return to my "lack of a life" and "blithering"....... | | Darth_Painkiller_0870 wrote: | | Wow, Rob! You really are an ignorant s.o.b., aren't you? First off, since you ignored Freeze, let me explain a few things that you have also ignored in the 5 yrs you've been a member of this site:
1. Freeze is disabled. There is a Deep Freeze Well Wishers Thread that you might want to take the time to read through at your lesuire to gain some measure of understanding.
2. Freeze is older than you by a few years. Sorry, but I don't remember his exact age. Perhaps you can go ask him yourself in PM?
3. Lastly, DF is without a doubt, a staunch conservative (as am I btw).
As for my font size, if you don't like it, oh well. Back to work for me! | | Rob Ward wrote: | | Your arrogance is only topped by your lack of manners; let’s talk up bringing shall we? You’re a blithering idiot to say the least, and you act like you’re above everyone else. I gave my honest opinion about Judas Priest latest cd, you spout off and call me stupid amongst other things, you attacked me I didn't attack you. Your clearly a person that thinks they are the smartest in the room which is a clear indicator to me that you are in fact a liberal, you talk down to people that you don't agree with and you haven't the mannerism to debate anything, another clear indicator of a liberal.
You want to judge me by the amount of friends I have on this board, I have been a member of this board for 5 years and only have 1 friend and counting this post a total of 66 posts. That's an indicator that I actually have a real life and only post when I feel that it's relevant to the band. You on the other hand have been a member for 3 years and yet you have well over 15,000 post and you’re being ignored by 21 people, that's an indicator to me that you have no life to speak of, that's about 13 post a day. Does your mom know your on your computer that much? I mean I'm sure you don't spend all of your internet time on the Judas Priest board, get a job man and do something with your life...
Count me as #22 on your ignore list, your a waste of time and I'll need to reevaluate myself because I find very disturbing that I would actually have something in common with loser like you.... | | Deep Freeze wrote: | | At the risk of GREAT personal annoyance, I will respond to you again.
Liberal?!?!? ME???? My good, YOUNG, man!...I am so conservative I make YOU look like a "New Dealer"! HA!!!!!!!!!!! Global Warming???HAHAHAHAA!! Oh my! I should probably thank you for the laugh. I did need one! I have an upset stomach from the spotted owl I had for breakfast. Incredible! You are a mere 40 years old, yet you have managed to become so tremendously arrogant in that short period!?!?! Ah well, there is certainly no accounting for upbringing.
I fear we have let this spiral out of control. I stand by my opinion of you and your actions. If you choose to further debate, you can do so with yourself, or perhaps Darth would like a go at you.. You are condemned by your own words, not mine. I cannot imagine ANY scenario in which a person could go to a particular band's OFFICIAL website and declare, in their own words, that they "hate" them, and then not expect retribution. I stand by my previous comments. Your remarks were NOT of a constructive nature but rather, they were meant to cause discord; at this point and time I can honestly say I hate Judas Priest. THAT is a musical opinion??? Perhaps you should spend a bit more time in class (or should have) to get a clearer understanding of the words we use in the English language? I do not believe that it was I who asked for you to "leave". I certainly do not care if you are here or you are not. As I have mentioned before, it is not up to me and your ilk have come and gone so many times I have lost count. But, when one comes to an OFFICIAL site and expresses "hate" for the site's subject, I tend to believe it is not about having an opinion or exercising ones right to speech. It is an overt attempt to grab attention or agitate. (I will give you a moment to look those up as well)
Say what you will. You have that right. But there is no need to be a liar in addition to being a boor.

Deep, I'm glad you’re the one everyone needs to look for to figure out who's who on the board. I don't do anything for a reaction; I posted what I thought about the cd and the singles that was previously released. It is you and Darth and a couple of others that attack someone for giving their honest opinion about the cd, it is you and they that try for a reaction. I never once called anyone a name or made a derogatory comment to or about anyone. I gave my honest opinion and because it wasn't a positive cool aid drinking opinion I am attacked for it.
I don't care what Judas Priest is trying to achieve with this cd, it sucks. I am one that likes music that is inspiring and entertaining, nothing in this cd is entertaining. I hate the guitar sound, I hate the guitar work, and I hate all the slow dragged out songs that sounds like the one before it. I don't like the vocals, it's a lame attempt at opera, and they are completely out of place. I don't like the cd and I don't need to leave the board because you or anyone else doesn't like what I say. If you and Darth can't handle what people say then it is you and he that needs to leave.
I am now, always have been, and always will be a Judas Priest fan, but I hate them for recording this cd and few others. Just because you write something that so completely different then anything anyone else has ever done, doesn't automatically make it something great. IMO they failed with this cd, if you or anyone else can't handle my opinion then TFB!

Okay Rob, so let's talk about your "honest opinion" of the new CD. It's one thing to have an opinion and not like a release. That's not what our problem is. The problem is that you claim to be a Judas Priest fan for x amount of years, yet you clearly state that in your first post on this thread, that you hate Judas Priest for this CD.
Frankly, even if I didn't like a CD, I wouldn't go as far as to hate a band for it. You might as well not even be a fan. Seriously, I mean your original diatribe (hard to call it an opinion since you rambled on so incessantly when your point was well made in your first post) raised your level of discourse (to a whole lot of people here) to the point where a casual observer would probably wonder why you're even a fan at all.
If you don't like the CD...hey, that's fine. That's your opinion. The hate thing for a band you supposedly are a fan of is clearly stupid at best though. Maybe a clarification of your original comment is needed since we've possibly misunderstood you?
BTW, you're a liberal, aren't you? [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Darth_Painkiller_0870 from Monday, June 16, 2008 4:37:49 AM) | | Darth_Painkiller_0870 wrote: | | Wow, Rob! 2. Freeze is older than you by a few years. Sorry, but I don't remember his exact age. Perhaps you can go ask him yourself in PM?

Indeed. I fail to see how it is that you can even suggest that I have "attacked" you or anyone else for that matter. In fact, I clearly stated that you are entitled to your opinion of the new album, did I not? I could not care less if you have a "reaction" to me or not. I would quite prefer you ignore me. I see that you have been here five years and yet you have ONE friend?? It is no surprise.
By any standard, you could certainly use a lesson or two in manners.

Worse yet, the faked indignance is really beneath a man of your alleged " years", is it not? You are "man" enough to say it, you should be "man" enough to admit it. But again, upbringing.
Finally, I expect that you will respond to me. It is the nature of the guilty to profess their innocence. As you no doubt have heard before, jails are full of innocent people. In any event, you are free to continue to do and say whatever you wish. I am sure you and your one friend will enjoy your time here with us. You must be incredibly proud. Or how about this part when you call me stupid?
I know there are many of you that have been members of this site long enough to have seen this schtick more than once. I can remember some that were actually intelligent and presented an argument worthy of debate. I fear that is not the case with young Mr. Ward. Further discussion or counter-argument with this individual is the mental equivalent of debate with an Australian bushman regarding the intricasies of compound interest and bond investment. Why is it that you prefer for me to ignore you, but you couldn't find the restraint to do it yourself in the first place? Are you above being responded to? Let me guess you’re a liberal aren't you?

Regarding the haters: I think you guys are crazy. Plain and simple. Rob reminds me of the haters who used to frequent the noticeboard and harrassed Jayne when she was on here. The reason that Judas Priest are saying to listen to the CD twice before forming your opinion on it, is simply because there is so much going on in it. Personally, I've listened to it twice now, and I'm super-fucking happy as a pig in mud to hear something so melodious and well-written. Halford's vocals are top notch and the band's music on the CD is more diverse and well-composed.
Rob Ward, you ramble way too much dude. We get that you hate Judas Priest now. So, just do us all a favor and leave. |

It is simply a waste of your time! |

TFB eh? Is that the best you can do, Rob? Aside from your constant negativity and mad ramblings? Priest fan indeed! No, Freeze hit it right on the head...you are an attention getter. Just looking back through your posts and it's clearly evident that's what you are.

I figured TFB meant Too Fucking Bad. He also clarified that he meant he hated this latest style (along with some others in the past) of Priest music.
The rest of this message is directed towards everyone who's reacting negatively in here lately towards other members.
I don't see why Rob's being given the third degree, and a hard time for having/sharing an opinion. I happen to love Turbo for example, yet I don't question others opinions, and put them down for it. Rather I respect their opinion, and I'm quite dissapointed at some of the reactions here lately. No one has to love every cd Priest puts out to be a fan. Some are simply a fan of an era perhaps. There are many different levels of how much an individual likes/loves this band. No one here can say what's in anothers heart, and their feelings towards this band. That's up to an individual to share with us, and we either take their word, or don't.
I think we all should focus on getting along, and attempting to understand each other, rather than attack each other. When one's put on the defensive...that individual may never explain what he/she meant, but instead becomes a battle of words, and what gets lost is why we are a member here in the first place, and that's to talk about the band we love enough to join this site. So I wish we all could just relaxe, and attempt to understand, and respect each other, and their opinions.
Thank you...Jeff

This is what I've waited 3 years for?!!!
I've tried to listen to the "leak" of Nostradamus twice now. The first time I made it to song #16, and the 2nd time...song #12. I was hoping it would get better the 2nd time, but it didn't. Rob's voice is gone down the tubes. He's singing in a very limited vocal range, and I'm afraid it will only get worse from here. The few times he tries to hit a higher note, his voice strains to reach it, and I can almost hear it crack.
I will eventually hear it all, but for now...I'm quite dissapointed that I spent money for the deluxe edition. It doesn't sound like it will be worth $42 I spent.
I hope the book, and poster are better than the cd!
I am a diehard Priest fan since 1986, and this is not how I wanted Priest to end. I want my hard-assed headbangin' Judas Priest style heavy metal back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll keep my fingures crossed for the next cd. |

Though i think all the non hardcore priest fans will not like it but, they didn't like painkiller either so they can go fuck themselves, love the transition in sands of time to pestilance and plague |

Put my foot in my mouth! **An apology to the JP fans of this site.**
I recently wrote a very harsh review of the Nostradamus cd based on my first listent to "LEAKS" on MTV.com. Being a long time head-banger and fan of Priest I was spoiled with hard crunching riffs and ear-piercing screams of past Priest cds so when I first listened to the cd via the "leaks" I was a bit turned upside down by their new sound. After I shut my mouth and opened my ears, I listened for a second and now I'm on my third time through (even as I write this) and I have to say the more I listen, the more I'm stunned by the depth and versitility of the music. It's nothing I would have expected but now greatly appreciate and even enjoy more! The more I listen, the more I like it. Nostradamus is not the super fast paced metal I expected...............It's so much more! I'm really enjoying song 10 "Peace".
So to all those I may have offended I'm sorry to have so quickly judged the new cd. It really is fucking good and gets better after several listens!
Regards,
JayDee |

Good review of Nostradamus by: Iann Robinson http://www.nonelouder.com/profiles/blog/show?id=1528828%3ABlogPost%3A98142
Judas Priest has announced their return to music by throwing their hat into a very small ring of which only a few bands can claim to reside. I’m talking about concept albums, a time honored tradition in music that is attempted by few and pulled off by even less. With their new album “Nostradamus” Judas Priest have now entered their name into the same pantheon as Pink Floyd, Genesis, Brian Wilson and others who have stepped up their musical game to create something more than the standard songs-in-a-row record. Even for a band with the legacy of Judas Priest “Nostradamus” is a massive undertaking, a two-disc album that works to connect each song into something that paints the picture of the uncommon life of the infamous psychic. Priest are not happy to play it safe by simply attacking Nostradmus’s predictions, they have written an album about the actual life and times of the man himself. The best part is that this thing fucking rocks.
Nostradamus opens with “Dawn Of Creation” a two-minute instrumental overture, giving the album the feel of an Opera or Theatrical Production. The first minute is a melancholy classical piece but it slowly dissolves into a creepy theme track, almost as if Chopin were to write theme music alongside John Carpenter. “Dawn Of Creation” bleeds right into the second track “Prophecy” which is a full blast Judas Priest rocker. The riff for “Prophecy” mixed with Halford’s bellow could place this song on the classics list alongside “Breaking The Law” and “Painkiller”. I defy anyone to finish listening to “Prophecy” and not walk away singing the chorus “I am Nostradamus” to themselves. This may be a classic Priest tune but it only serves as one step in the evolution of this album. What comes next is “Awakenings” an acoustic musical bit that features Halford’s vocals pushing their range and also serves as the first of several vignettes that connect the album. Priest rides the fine line between rock album and apocalyptic concept album with the precision that only a band with their lengthy career can execute. At no point do they lose track of what makes this a concept album but they do it without sacrificing riffs and songwriting. KK Downing and Glen Tipton give us exactly what we want as fans, headbanging, and fist pumping anthemic metal tunes. The interesting part is how they take these huge riffs and mix them into the overall epic feel of the record as a whole.
Take a musical vignette like “The Four Horsemen” which by and large sounds like the theme to a sci-fi fantasy film complete with strings and a haunting choir. Priest pull out all the stops in this tiny interlude to make you feel the fantasy elements but then the drums for the next track titled “War” blow in and holy fuck does the epic idea ramp up a few notches. When Halford sings out “Gods Of War” in the song’s chorus it is so epic you can feel yourself reaching for some kind of weapon to do battle. Even when Priest enters into the murky waters of keyboards they manage to pull it off without becoming Goth or overly melodramatic. Sure there is melodrama in Nostradamus, it’s a concept album about a psychic but Priest stop it just short of melodrama, which keeps the album from ending up silly. Experience helps Priest keep Nostradamus from collapsing under its own weight or getting too over the top.
The songs here feel more like scenes each playing their part to move the story arc along. Songs like “Prophecy” and “War” really push this whole beat along while final tracks like “Nostradamus” and the eight-minute epic “Future Of Mankind” ties the whole thing up in a perfect way. The only time trouble enters the fray is during the middle, which tends to get a little lengthy for my tastes. It doesn’t kill the record at all it just weighs it down a bit. In total “Nostradamus” is 23 tracks that could easily have been 18 without losing a beat. I don’t begrudge Priest this because I have yet to hear one concept album that wasn’t just a few tracks long. I’m a big fan of leave-them-wanting-more but that may be impossible when dealing with an epic like Nostradamus.
So much of metal has become one-dimensional these days. The technical death metal and metalcore aspects that have long dominated the genre have nearly stripped it away of anything that can even charitably be considered creativity. That may be why something like “Nostradamus” excites me, the idea that even with its flaws this record is head and shoulders above most of what I hear on a day-to-day basis. Priest give us not only the great songs they always have but also dynamics, emotional ups and downs and of course Halford’s incredible voice. Perhaps it’s too much to ask for younger bands to write something like this but maybe hearing something that pushes metal in a different direction will inspire them away from the mundane.

Dee, that is an incredibly kind thing for you to say. I am very happy that I can be of such great help!!
I have listened to Priest for over thirty years. I have been disappointed in some of their music and I have been awed by some, but I have never been disappointed in their effort. I remember VERY well when Painkiller was released. I thought that it was a "return", of sorts, to their "roots. I felt Turbo was a bit too much of a departure from what it is they do, but it was a tremendous effort, in so much as it was right for the times.
Nostradamus is a focused effort at a conceptual venture. It is not meant to be like any of their other works. That is the whole point. I find it pleasing that Judas Priest do not take the "easy" way and just churn out album after album of relatively similar work. I do not believe that this album "re-invents" the Band, rather, it shows dimension. It shows ability and diversity. If they wanted to put out another Painkiller, I am confident that they could but ,what would be the point? They are at a stage in their career where putting out albums is not so much about money-making as it is about showing their vast range. About taking chances. About effort. Judas Priest has earned the right to be more creative and take greater risks. Longevity is only one aspect. They have consistently shown that they are light-years ahead of other bands. They remain relevant in a musical world that has long ago departed from musicianship and complexity. Brilliant! Amazing, diverse, musical genious! MASTERPIECE!
I have no idea why people are trying to compare it to Painkiller and others...this is nothing like anything that has come before it! The complexity of the music shows that Judas Priest are not just Heavy Metal musicians, they are Artists in music!
I new this CD was not going to be like anything they had ever done before, so I listened with an open mind. This could very well be a broadway musical soomeday, and I don't mean that in a durogatory manner. I could actually see this being done as a movie! Like Phantom of the Opera and Sweeny Todd.
This is still heavy. It is a Heavy Metal Opera/Opus!
It's an emotianal rollercoaster!
If you listeded to the leak expecting Screaming for Vengeance, Painkiller, or even Angel, you would be disappointed to an extent. As the conceptual album it is, it is truely amazing! Musically, lyrically, and in it's presentation! |

I have always considered Judas Priest among the elite in musicianship. It is one of the things that drew me to them initially. The complexities of their arrangements, the great melodies, the intricate guitar work and the back and forth between Glenn and KK. All very innovative and far ahead of their time! It is rather difficult for a "Metal" band to get proper credit for musicianship. The genre does not lend itself well to musical criticism. Most often, the only people that are willing to "give them props" are musicians themselves since they understand what is really going on in the song. They showed me that they are much better musicians than people ever gave them credit for though. Don't get me wrong, they have always been great to me, but this is a whole new level of musicianship. | | Deep Freeze wrote: | | I enjoyed it as well. I was NOT "expecting" anything in particular. Not everyone liked The White Album, either..you know? | | Demonizer13 wrote: | | Hell, I didn't even read most of the posts.
I just thought I would share my thoughts on the new album.
I enjoyed every not of it! | | Deep Freeze wrote: | | I agree, HFG!! I am certain he will give a quality review!
Steve, well said! I could not agree more. The album is what it is and comparisions are a useless waste of energy. MANY bands have done concept albums, this is nothing new. Creative license is just part of being an artist. Not everyone will "get it", nor should they. Apparently, there are a few here that clearly do not.
The previous comments were not about honest, thoughtful consideration of the new album. They were were meant to create discord, plain and simple. I am thankful that so many of our members are intelligent enough to see through such nonsense. It is truly a testament to us as a group. | | Demonizer13 wrote: | | I have clearly been on the wrong thread!
Okay, my take on the Epic "Nostradamus" is this:
Brilliant! Amazing, diverse, musical genious! MASTERPIECE!
I have no idea why people are trying to compare it to Painkiller and others...this is nothing like anything that has come before it! WASP has something similar, Iced Earth just had a concept album, but this is different.
